As a Residential Social Worker at CrossReach, you will be based within one of our Residential Children’s Homes. The role is hands‑on, involving direct care of children and young people, supporting daily routines, and managing the day‑to‑day needs of the home. You will also apply your social work expertise to assessment, planning, decision‑making and will record and report on the child’s progress.
Role
As a qualified professional, you will be a steady presence in the home, combining compassionate care with confident leadership. You will guide the team, uphold high professional standards and set the tone for safe, trauma‑informed practice.
Typical day
* Work directly with children and young people, building safe and trusting relationships.
* Act as the key worker, completing assessments, care plans and reports.
* Lead practice on shift, support decision‑making, conduct risk assessments and problem solve.
* Coach and guide colleagues, supporting the development of good relational and trauma‑informed practice.
* Contribute to child protection discussions and decisions.
* Collaborate with families, social work, education and partner agencies.
* Participate in looked‑after reviews, hearings and review meetings.
* Maintain a stable, predictable and well‑run home environment.
About You
You are a qualified Social Worker comfortable in a residential setting, with sound judgement and emotional resilience. You are committed to reflective practice, continuous improvement, and can work 24/7 shifts, including evenings and weekends. You value teamwork and practise in a relational, trauma‑informed manner.
Requirements & Qualifications
* BA Social Work or equivalent qualification.
* Experience working within Children and Families services.
* Registration with the SSSC and adherence to its Codes of Practice.
* Ability to complete high‑standard assessments, care plans and reports.
* Full manual driving licence and confidence driving pool cars.
* Good IT skills, including Microsoft 365.
* PVG membership or willingness to join.
* Flexibility to work across shifts, evenings and weekends.

* You must be a member of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme.
* You must be registered with the SSSC.
* You must hold the right to work in the UK.
* You must respect and work within CrossReach’s Christian Ethos.
