The role Are you ready to lead from the front in protecting Wales' environment and communities? As a Team Leader in Industry & Waste Regulation, you'll head up a high-performing team tackling some of the most complex and high-risk industrial and waste regulation challenges in the country. From overseeing COMAH and RSR sites to cracking down on illegal waste activity, you'll be at the forefront of safeguarding public health and the environment. You'll shape strategic work programmes, influence national policy, and build strong relationships with major industry players-often at director level. This is a leadership role with real impact. You'll manage a skilled team of regulatory and enforcement officers, guiding their development, wellbeing, and performance. You'll also play a key role in incident response, enforcement action, and delivering outcomes that support sustainable management of natural resources and community wellbeing. What you will do Manage and develop a large team of Regulatory and Enforcement Officers and be fully accountable for their performance, contribution, development and well-being, health and safety. Using technical specialist knowledge of industry, waste and enforcement, prepare and present your teams' annual work plan and production of associated performance and assurance reports. Be responsible for regulatory decisions at place level, ensuring adherence to the Regulators' Code and our Regulatory Principles. Develop and maintain effective and influential customer relationships (internal and external) at a senior level (e.g. Director level engagement within multinational companies). Contribute your technical knowledge and stakeholder management experience to risk-based decision making by the team and the wider business. Be responsible for delegated team and project budgets. Respond to and manage team's response to incidents and complaints. Required to take part in incident response activities Your qualifications, experience, knowledge and skills In your application and interview you will be asked to demonstrate the following skills and experience using the STAR method. Experience of line management including coaching and mentoring Experience of managing contentious issues and community liaison and public engagement activities. Good understanding of commercial business processes and pressures. Ability to communicate effectively with regulated business and the public, explaining complex issues and gaining support by influencing. Extensive knowledge and experience of regulatory processes (including enforcement) and incident management. Full UK drivers license.
