Technical Manager - HVAC Critical Services – Slough area
Facilities Engineering Contractor, a leading global provider of integrated facilities and corporate real estate management, is recruiting a Technical Manager to join the team located in Slough. This role reports to the Senior Technical Manager and is a key technical leadership position within the Data Centre campus, ensuring efficient operation of critical and non-critical engineering services and PC-based systems.
Package: c£75,000+ car allowance + paid overtime, private pension, private medical, 33 days holiday.
Purpose of the Job
To provide technical leadership with a risk-focused approach, act as the technical reference point for permits, method statements, risk assessments, and safety procedures, and ensure high standards of engineering delivery and training across the site.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage own time and allocate works to other team members; manage costs related to maintenance activities (specialist and self-perform).
* Ensure client services, computer rooms, data networks, manufacturing, and revenue-earning services meet client requirements or SLAs.
* Provide technical management reports and leadership to building engineers.
* Serve as part of the escalation chain for incidents and site issues, providing technical support and leadership, in and out of hours.
* Support critical environment-related technical audits; maintain maintenance documentation/records in retrievable systems.
* Advise Facilities Management Team of changes in critical environment requirements; plan statutory maintenance and testing; report Statutory Compliance Audit results as required.
* Ensure maintenance aligns with H&S procedures and permit to work systems; conduct investigations and reports for breaches, incidents or accidents.
* Attend site meetings with the client; support training requirements and ensure engineers are trained or in training to maintain high engineering standards.
* Create and approve technical paperwork (Safety Programs, Risk Assessments, Switching Schedules).
* Become a Senior Authorised Person for HV/LV and confined spaces; train and appoint authorised persons and conduct annual reviews.
* Sign off on new recruits and guide engineers’ technical development; maintain Facilities Engineering Contractor platforms (e.g., Quantum) for risk radar.
* Lead cultural change through safe working practices, compliance, and quality standards; coach and mentor the engineering team; manage risks using CERM methodologies.
* Oversee site engineering team in application of CERM; supervise field mock drills; assist with site process creation and curation.
* Develop skills to become a Senior Authorised Person and participate in appointment of HV, LV and Confined Space APs.
* Provide technical advice to site management and client as required; provide incident management training and field drills.
Personal Specification / Qualifications
* Electrician with recognised qualifications (apprenticeship, HND, C&G).
* 18th Edition Electrical Wiring Regulations – essential.
* Previous experience operating data centres/critical environments; knowledge of emergency response/standby/call-out activities.
* Understanding of monitoring of utilities and environmental programmes; IOSH or equivalent H&S training.
* Excellent facilitation and communication skills; self-motivated, resourceful, proactive.
* Understanding of water hygiene (L8) – desirable; experience with UPS, standby power, and critical environment cooling.
* Operational experience managing Environmental, Health & Safety and Quality Systems; PC and MS Office skills; system integration and handover experience preferred.
* Management experience – essential; ability to train others, perform under pressure, and enforce Safety Rules.
* HVAP qualification with demonstrable experience suitable for SAP level appointment.
