Overview
E.ON UK is recruiting a Senior Commercial Manager - Construction to lead the rollout of pioneering low-carbon infrastructure across the UK. This is a home-based role with regular nationwide travel. Permanent, with a competitive salary and a company car/allowance (£6,000 p/a) and a strong benefits package.
What you'll be doing
Lead a team of Quantity Surveyors and Estimators, overseeing projects from early development through to operational handover. Ensure delivery safety, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality. Develop and implement commercial strategies to realise E.ON’s low-carbon vision, and drive innovation across the project lifecycle.
Key responsibilities
* Lead and develop the estimating and commercial (QS) functions within the heat networks, construction and major projects team.
* Lead tendering / pricing exercises and oversee complex bids from initial enquiry through to final submission to the client team (external D&B and Capital Investment Projects).
* Support sales, design, project management, procurement and legal teams to structure and continuously improve the commercial competitiveness of E.ON’s position while maintaining delivery quality and supply security.
* Guide and support project teams in risk management and value-added opportunities, ensuring consideration and mitigation are reflected in E.ON’s proposals and CES project delivery.
* Shape and steer technical and commercial support to project teams and help resolve conflicts with clients, suppliers and contractors as needed.
* Support sales teams to identify new opportunities while developing existing relationships.
* Develop business practices and market conditions to evaluate bid and project responsiveness, contractor responsibility and performance.
* Continually push the boundaries of best practice and promote this ethos with stakeholders internal and external.
What we need from you
* Demonstrable industry experience as a Commercial Manager/Quantity Surveyor in a construction environment.
* Ability to review engineering/technical drawings (mostly M&E, Civil Engineering) and analyse, interpret, measure and quantify BOQ/QSORs for multiple trade scopes.
* Experience drafting ITTs, contractual documentation, and managing scope interfaces and procurement opportunities.
* Advanced knowledge of construction contracts (JCT, NEC) and UK legislation: CDM, HSSE and the Built Environment; skilled in dispute/avoidance resolution for contractual claims.
* Analytical approach with ability to influence decisions using structured evidence and broad subject knowledge.
* Working knowledge of standard PC software (MS Office, MS Project) and willingness to learn new tools.
* Leadership and coaching skills with the ability to motivate both team members and the wider group.
Nice to have
* Appropriate engineering or commercial qualification.
* In-depth knowledge of commercial on-site generation technologies (gas engines, steam boilers, absorption chillers, heat pumps, PV, batteries and utility networks).
* Working knowledge of planning tools and software; familiarity with lean tools (8D, statistical analysis).
* Strong understanding of commercial impacts.
