Focus on longer term and process improvement items. The process engineer is the primary engineer responsible for process designs, improvements, and engineering support of capital projects. Responsible to develop technical solutions, mathematical models and applies technology in the manufacturing environment.
1. Become an expert on the process chemistry, the operating philosophy, and the process design basis for equipment.
2. High Level understanding of site control systems capabilities infrastructure, trouble shooting, control loops and functionality.
3. Serves as a technical Liaison
Provide Process Technology input to the development and implementation of programs to achieve best in class performance in safety and quality of products and service in the Plant and Division.
Minimal input in day to day investigations, heavy involvement for larger systemic issues for problem, yield and defective production issues.
Responsible for system and formula feedbacks (SFFB) where appropriate.
4. Leads new product/formula introductions for new technologies and assists production role for transfers and similar technologies as required.
Completes plant engineering packages for new technologies.
Lead and participate in the development of New Products and their translation to manufacturing systems, participating in product development teams and maintaining strong interaction with Technology, Business, Manufacturing and other functions.
5. Leads and participates in the development of best-in-class processes and practices for plant and divisional applications. Implements global process engineering design for manufacturing standardization of new technologies.
Responsible for implementing Design Engineering Standards for process best Practices.
Develop economic studies and evaluations of existing and proposed processes.
6. Identifies and implements improvements
Provide recommendations and work within teams to achieve continuous improvement for improved safety, improved quality, better service, lower costs, and improved yields.
Assists to develop long term vision for facility and technology plan to achieve goals.Develop and evaluate ideas for longer term process improvements including ideas for capital projects.
Write Charters/Proposals/Scopes for Improvements, including quantifying improvements and costs
Leads and Participates in LSS/Continuous Improvement projects where appropriate
Leads small capital projects where appropriate
7. Support facility engineers with process design for capital projects.
Develop process designs and process design letters to support capital projects, including, as needed: process simulations, heat and material balances, process flow diagrams, piping & instrument diagrams, process equipment specifications, Process Hazard Analysis / HAZOP activities, economic analyses, and HSE evaluations.
Provide on-going support to capital project engineers during the detailed design phase, equipment purchase, construction and start-up of capital projects.
Provide process technology input in the form of technology packages as the basis of capital investments
Participates and Approves facility preliminary engineering packages for capital projects.
8. Provide plant training for process chemistry, operations and design of equipment.
9. Participates in Equipment Optimization and Operating Parameters
10. Responsible key PSM element owner for on-site Process Safety Management (PSM) program
Responsible Element ownership of PHA and PSI
Review and develop Process Safety Information as needed
11. Lead or participate in Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR’s), and management of change (MOC’s)
12. Knowledgeable of all applicable codes, standards and RAGAGEP for the equipment / processes typically utilized in Sherwin Williams.
13. Utilize outside engineering expertise where appropriate for process design, equipment sizing, etc.
14. Performs other duties as assigned.
15. Engineering Apprenticeship.
16. Engineering degree, or working towards.
17. 5 + year’s experience in a Hazardous manufacturing environment.
18. Working knowledge of Management of relevant country Health and Safety legislation
19. Experience of Computer Maintenance Management Systems.
20. Regulatory understanding, including, PSSR, LOLER, PUWER, HASAW 1974, SEVESO/COMAH.
21. Working knowledge of ATEX
22. Commissioning and Management of Change.
23. Advanced PC skills essential
