We are seeking
to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Associate to join the team of Prof. Elena Seiradake. The Seiradake group specialises in structural biology, cell biology and neurobiology, providing access to expertise and training in these areas. The successful candidate will focus on the structures and functions of adhesion receptors. The work will involve some or all of the following methods: single particle cryo-electron microscopy, cryo-electron tomography, X-ray crystallography, surface plasmon resonance, protein engineering, mammalian cell culture, fluorescence microscopy, immunostaining. This full-time fixed-term post is funded by the Wellcome Trust for up to 12 months in the first instance. The actual starting salary offered will be based on qualifications and relevant skills acquired and will also be determined by the funding available. About you Applicants should hold a PhD/DPhil, or be near completion of a PhD/DPhil, in a subject area involving structural biology, and have excellent relevant skills in all of the following: X-ray crystallography, single particle cryo-electron microscopy, protein biochemistry, protein engineering, large scale sterile mammalian cell culture, large scale DNA plasmid preparation, fluorescence microscopy, protein pull-downs, enzyme activity assays, molecular cloning, phylogenetic analysis using large DNA sequence data sets. A good publication record (taking the career stage into account) is expected. You should be well-trained, enthusiastic and self-motivated, with excellent team-working and interpersonal skills. You should also have excellent communication skills. You may be required to travel overseas to conduct collaborative experiments as and when necessary to advance the research project.
