Overview
Job title: Band 5 Respiratory Physiologist. The role involves actively participating as part of the multidisciplinary team within Respiratory Medicine to provide a seamless service to patients. The post requires the ability to work unsupervised in all areas and responsibility for the day-to-day running of the area in which staff are working.
Responsibilities
* Perform a full range of basic lung function tests on adults and paediatric out-patients and in-patients.
* Analyse basic lung function tests on adults and paediatric patients.
* Set-up and analyse sleep studies and report findings.
* Initiate patients on CPAP/VPAP therapy, follow-up and review patients.
* Review and prioritise inpatient requests for respiratory investigations within lung function tests, sleep studies and CPAP/VPAP set-ups.
* Respond to emergency situations promptly and professionally, maintaining control and requesting assistance as necessary.
* Participate in training in other disciplines to support ongoing professional development and maintain technical competency.
* Assist with efficient running of the technical service by prioritising the daily workload where appropriate.
* Deputise for the Senior Respiratory Physiologists when necessary and undertake other duties as directed by the Clinical Lead Respiratory Physiologist or deputies.
* Maintain day-to-day running of the area, ensuring equipment is operational, stock levels are maintained, and that equipment and non-disposable items are cleaned according to departmental policies.
* Ensure all patients receive appropriate and individualised care.

* BSc (Hons) Clinical Physiology or equivalent (2)
* Extensive experience in a Lung Function & Sleep Department (2)
* Sound knowledge of Lung Function and Sleep investigations (2)
* ARTP Part 1&2 qualifications (2)
* Commitment to maintaining own personal professional development (2)
Desirable
* Further specialised training in sleep & lung function (2)
* Intermediate Life Support Skills (2)
* AHCS registration or qualifications to attain this (2)
Experience
Essential
* Extensive experience in a Respiratory Physiology Department (not including placement/internship) (2)
* Competent to perform, analyse and interpret lung function tests, CPAP setup/reviews and Sleep Studies (2)
* Experience in implementing innovation or responsibility for part of service delivery (2)
* Well-organised with ability to prioritise workload; staff teaching/mentoring (2)
