The job itself
We are excited to be able to offer the unique opportunity to work on a casual basis across all East Riding Multi Service Centres (merged Library and Customer Service Centres). Working hours will vary depending on your availability and on the needs of the service but the core hours are Monday to Friday 9.15am to 5.30pm (up to 6.45pm on occasions if a late night) and Saturday 9.15am -12.45pm. Shifts can range from at least 3 hours to 9 hours (on a full day with late night), and anything in between.
What you will be doing The Casual Pool is crucial to our Multi Service Centres, providing continuous support and cover, sometimes at very short notice, to the various sites across the whole of the East Riding as needed. No week will be the same as you will work wherever you are most needed, helping out and getting to know different sites and teams within the network.
You will help ensure service levels are maintained by covering for staff shortages. You will get to help many different types of customers with enquiries ranging, from someone wanting to apply for a bus pass to someone looking for the latest thriller novel. This is a very varied role, with a wide range of tasks split primarily between triaging face-to-face customer service enquiries and undertaking library related duties, including promoting and assisting in the use of our self-serve facilities, and occasionally support various groups and activities. The work is often physically demanding, involving lifting and moving around the workplace.
About You We are looking for motivated and confident individuals, with some experience of working in a customer focussed environment.
You are someone who enjoys working with customers of all ages and you have excellent communication and customer care skills. You will need to be able to deal with difficult situations effectively, keeping calm under pressure. You will be able to demonstrate that you have excellent IT skills and can use multiple IT systems to assist customers. This is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience working for the council, in a public facing role, using a variety of systems to offer council & library services.
