Pharmacy Technician – Yeovil, Somerset (Medical Centre Base)
Symphony Healthcare Services is looking for a Pharmacy Technician to work within our Primary Care Network (PCN) multidisciplinary healthcare team, based in Yeovil, Somerset. The role is permanent, full‑time (37.5 hours per week) and offers a pay rate of £15.64 per hour plus the option to join the NHS pension and other employee benefits.
Job Summary
The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, be organised, patient and empathetic, and will have experience of working in health, social care or other support roles that involve direct contact with people, families or carers. You will support safe, effective and efficient medicines management for our patients.
Responsibilities
* Support the practice pharmacist with medicines reconciliation and update patient medical records and prescriptions.
* Carry out medication switches, dose optimisation and medicines synchronisation to ensure safe and cost‑effective prescribing.
* Initiate repeat prescribing (e‑RD) for appropriate patients.
* Provide advice to GPs, staff and patients about changes to prescribing, supporting improvement of prescribing safety, quality and cost‑effectiveness.
* Participate in medication audits and QOF quality improvement projects.
* Support practices to meet QOF indicators and manage high‑risk drug monitoring and other safety scorecard indicators.
Qualifications & Experience
* Professional registration with the GPhC.
* Meets the GPhC criteria to register as a Pharmacy Technician, including completion of an approved training pathway such as the Primary Care Pharmacy Educational Pathway or Medicines Optimisation in Care Homes.
* BTEC/NVQ level 3 or equivalent in pharmaceutical sciences.
* At least 2 years practical experience as a pharmacy technician in primary care, community or secondary care settings.
* Experience of providing pharmaceutical and prescribing advice and of working within computerised recording systems.
* Good clinical pharmacy knowledge and experience of prescription processes and systems.
* Experience of audit and quality improvement projects.
* Enrolment on a recognised pharmacy technician educational pathway.
Desirable
* Experience of systems to support patients in a primary care setting.
* Knowledge of the general practice environment and prescribing systems relating to GP practice, community.
* Experience of project implementation.
