Haywards Farm School is a small, outstanding independent school in West Berkshire, catering to 34 students with a range of special educational needs, including learning difficulties, social and emotional challenges, and autistic spectrum disorders. Many students have a history of non-attendance and require support to successfully transition into the school environment. The Teaching Assistant will work specifically with a vulnerable student, providing consistent one-to-one support to help build trust, promote attendance, and support academic and vocational development.
The role requires flexibility, creativity, and therapeutic understanding to meet the needs of the student and those outlined in their Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). The health, safety, and welfare of all pupils at Amegreen Education must always be held in the highest regard.
Main duties of the role
* Deliver 1:1 support to ensure the student\'s needs are met, providing tools to help concentrate and complete tasks.
* Support engagement in assessment and support packages/tools (GL Assessment and Accelerated Reader) as part of the school assessment cycle.
* Listen to the student and provide feedback on progress to parents and school staff as appropriate.
* Work with school therapists to implement assessment strategies and link work to each student\'s EHCP objectives.
* Help plan and prepare project work, drawing on resources within Future Education, and explore appropriate community facilities (libraries, museums, alternative education provisions, and appropriate venues) aligned to the curriculum.
The ideal candidate will have
* At least 2 years of experience in a similar setting or support role (e.g., residential childcare, SEN, or behavioural support).
* High energy, enthusiasm, and a proactive approach to engaging with young people.
* Physical ability to meet the demands of the role, including potential for physical interventions in line with behaviour support plans; willingness to complete training in safe physical intervention techniques.
* Strong communication skills, emotional resilience, and a genuine commitment to providing consistent, high-quality care.
