An exciting opportunity has arisen for a 6 month fixed term 0.4WTE Band 7 Clinical / Counselling Psychologist or CBT Therapist for our busy Maternity Trauma and Loss Service (M-TLC).
Main duties of the job
The post-holder will work as a member of the multidisciplinary team will provide assessment and treatment to women referred into or under the care of the team.
Under the supervision of the senior psychology team, the post-holder will provide specialist psychological assessment and treatment to service users as well as support and signposting to their families/carers. Using a psychological and trauma-informed perspective, they will provide advice and consultation on their care to non-psychology colleagues and to the professional network involved in treating and caring for women in maternity teams across the four maternity services within the CNWL footprint, i.e. Hillingdon, Northwick Park, Chelsea & Westminster, and St Mary’s Hospital.

Maternity Trauma and Loss Care Service (MTLC) are a dedicated team of psychological therapists, midwives and support staff working towards improving care for those who have experienced trauma and loss on their maternity journeys.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
1. Provide assessments of patients referred to the MTLC based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources.
2. To contribute to the assessments of women with specialist mental health disorders including formulations of predisposing, protective, precipitating and perpetuating factors.
3. To understand the impact of maternal (and paternal) mental health on infants and other family members, and to help develop pathways through which parenting issues and relational risks can be addressed.
4. To provide a comprehensive and time limited psychological therapy service to patients within the MTLC who may have a wide range of psychological needs resulting from the experiences of trauma related to the maternity context. This will include the provision of evidence-based treatments for trauma.
5. Implement care plans for the formal treatment and/or management of a woman’s problems, (with consideration of her baby’s needs) based upon an appropriate conceptual framework, and employing methods based upon evidence of efficacy, across the full range of care settings.
6. Evaluate and make decisions about treatment options considering both the evidence base, theoretical and therapeutic models and highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes which have shaped the individual, family or group.
7. To be responsible for implementing a range of time-limited psychological interventions for individuals, carers, families and groups, within and across teams employed individually and in synthesis, grounded in the principles and techniques of a range of theoretical approaches.
8. Provide specialist expertise, advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals contributing directly to women’s formulation, diagnosis and treatment plan.
9. Contribute directly and indirectly to a framework of understanding and care to the benefit of all women treated within the service, across all settings and agencies providing services for women, their children and their families.
10. To undertake risk assessment and risk management for individual women and their families and to provide advice to other professions on risk assessment and risk management in relevant cases.
11. Communicate in a skilled and sensitive manner, information concerning the assessment, formulation and treatment plans of patients under their care and to monitor progress during the course of both uni and multi-disciplinary care.
