Job overview

Financial incentives of £3000 per annum attached to this post paid over 12 monthly instalments.

To provide support to the Physical health team within the secure Health Centre and administration staff. To work unsupervised when performing investigations both within the Health Centre and at ward level. To assist with escort duties, internally and externally for both patients and visitors.

To be able to respond appropriately to emergency situations.

To competently perform venepuncture / ECG’s within the Health Centre and at ward level as directed by the requesting clinicians.

To operate the radio communications set when required and be conversant with hospital radio network procedures.

To undertake full control and restraint training, manage situations of actual and potential C&R issues using either approved C&R techniques or verbal de-escalation skills.


Main duties of the job

To demonstrate excellent interpersonal communications skills to communicate factual information to patients to overcome barriers to understanding.

To work collaboratively, sharing knowledge and experience with peers to provide support through teamwork. Participate in regular team meetings.

To demonstrate appropriate skills to deal with patients with challenging behaviour. Be able to adapt to the unpredictable demands of the patient and the needs of the service.

To assist with therapeutic monitoring of all relevant medication, being aware of data information system.

To be aware of patients’ well‑being, taking into account mental, physical, security and potential violent issues, reporting any concerns to the nurse in charge.

To maintain responsibility for the Health & Safety aspects of the environment for self, colleagues and visitors.

To maintain quality control checks of all equipment within the Health Centre.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Role model the values of the Trust – Continuous Improvement, Accountability, Respectfulness, Enthusiasm and Support– in all activities and interactions with employees, service users and other stakeholders.

Challenge the stigma associated with mental health and learning difficulties.

Comply with the Duty of Candour, defined by Francis as: ‘The volunteering of all relevant information to persons who have or may have been harmed by the provision of services, whether or not the information has been requested and whether or not a complaint or a report about that provision has been made.’

Work across professional and organisational boundaries to improve services for all.

Maintain their specific knowledge base and develop new skills.

Value the contribution of the patient / service user voice.

Operate within any organisational codes of practice or those from a relevant professional body.

Respect equality and diversity across all areas of working practice and communications with staff, service users and other stakeholders.

Have knowledge and understanding of technology in the workplace which is sufficient to maintain their efficiency and also how technology can empower service users in a digital environment.

Qualifications

* Evidence of studying for NVQ Level 3 in care or other relevant skills/academic based course or working towards this.

* Ability to fulfil escorting duties and breakaway training requirements as evident through medical screening
* Previous experience of phlebotomy, ECG recording and administrative work
* Smoking cessation trained.

* Willingness to maintain / develop skills and knowledge.
