This is an exciting opportunity to join the team working on the ‘Birthing Stories’ project with the University of Worcester and the George Marshall Medical Museum, a collaborative project between the University and the Museum funded by a UKRI Future Leaders’ Fellowship. ‘Birthing Stories’ is collecting oral histories with people who have given birth in Worcestershire to expand the museum’s archive and collection, and your role will be to help co-ordinate this collection, engage in transcription of oral history (and collection of oral histories, subject to training), undertake archival research, and contribute to engagement and outreach activities across Worcestershire.

You will work at the George Marshall Medical Museum at the Charles Hastings Education Centre at Worcester Royal Hospital, and at the University of Worcester City Campus. You will also be expected to participate in engagement and outreach activities across Worcestershire as part of your normal working duties. Following a successful probationary period, you will also be able to work from home on occasion, subject to line manager agreement.

The appointed candidate will start in the week beginning Monday 4th May (or as soon as possible thereafter) and work on a 0.4FTE contract for one year. This is a fixed-term role for 12 months. We welcome applications for flexible working. Occasional work outside of normal working hours (e.g., weekend events) may be required. Prior experience working in museum or heritage settings, or engagement and outreach roles, is not required, and full training will be given on all aspects of the role if required.

Applications close at 11:59pm Sunday 5th April, and it is anticipated that interviews will take place on Friday 17th April. Shortlisted candidates will be given a brief to create an outreach activity relevant to the themes of the project and asked to present their idea(s) for this in no more than 10 minutes. This will be followed by a formal interview, with questions given in advance. Interviews will take place in person at the University of Worcester City Campus. The cost of an off-peak return train ticket from your nearest station to Worcester will be covered on request; other modes of transportation, regrettably, cannot be funded.

What’s in it for you?

- Annual incremental increase up to £30,378, with the opportunity to progress to £32,080, subject to performance and the university reward scheme

- Up to 34 days’ leave per year (inclusive of bank holidays and University closure days), rising to 39 total days after five years’ continuous service

- Access to a range of benefits, including our Staff Retail Benefits Scheme

- Wellbeing advice and support through our Employee Assistance Programme

- In-house training and development support

- A friendly, inclusive and supportive culture and work environment

Please note that this post does not meet the minimum salary requirements for visa sponsorship under the Skilled Worker Route. We are therefore unable to consider applicants for this post who will require sponsorship to work in the UK.

Please note that if not already an employee of the University of Worcester, the appointed candidate will be employed through our subsidiary company Uniworc Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of the University of Worcester. Appointees of Uniworc Limited will automatically be enrolled into the Aviva FlexHE defined contribution pension scheme (subject to earnings and other eligibility criteria).

We value diversity and wish to promote equality at all levels.
