Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and reliable Pharmacy Technician to join our healthcare team within HMP Chelmsford prison. This role supports the prison healthcare team, manages medication administration, and ensures effective delivery of pharmaceutical services.
Working pattern: 40 hours per week, 7:00 AM‑6:00 PM, rolling 8‑week schedule with weekend coverage. Part‑time option may also be considered.
Responsibilities
* Act as an effective member of the Pharmacy team, providing healthcare services.
* Assist in delivering a high‑quality pharmacy service, managing medicines, tackling identified inequalities.
* Provide pharmacy‑related information to patients, prison officers and other healthcare professionals.
* Work autonomously within competency scope, supporting less experienced staff.
* Implement and develop pharmacy support for all residential wings, advising patients on correct medication use.
* Maintain clear and comprehensive, signed and contemporary records in written and electronic form.
* Recognise signs and symptoms of drug and alcohol withdrawal and support patients with substance misuse issues, distress, or suicide risk.
* Communicate effectively with team members, prison staff and external agencies.
* Undertake all mandatory and additional training as identified.
* Use and encourage familiarity with the prison security systems.
* Undertake all duties required of a Pharmaceutical Professional in HMP Chelmsford, complying with Department of Health competencies.
Qualifications & Experience
* Qualified with NVQ Level 3, BTEC or equivalent.
* Registered Pharmacy Technician with current GPhC membership.
* Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team in a fast‑paced environment.
* All candidates subject to prison vetting checks.
* Experience in a prison environment (desirable).
* Experience working as part of a multi‑disciplinary team (desirable).
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Confidence and capability for autonomous practice, able to work independently.
