Fluvial Geomorphologist – WSP UK & Ireland
Location: WSP offices across the UK, including Scotland, Leeds, London, and Bristol.
Responsibilities
* Conduct fluvial geomorphology studies for a diverse project portfolio.
* Perform River Condition Assessment for Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG), including data analysis, reporting, and recommending enhancements to achieve net gain.
* Lead Water Framework Directive compliance assessments.
* Support the Hydromorphology Service Line Lead and the broader team in delivering technical services to both internal and external clients.
* Produce and supervise high-quality client and public‑facing deliverables, excelling in communication and visualisation of complex data.
* Collaborate across disciplines to deliver challenging and engaging projects.
* Promote a 'safety first' attitude in line with WSP's health and safety policy.
Qualifications
* BA/BS degree in a relevant field; a postgraduate degree or PhD in geomorphology, environmental science, or catchment management is desirable.
* Chartered membership of a relevant professional institution, or active pursuit of chartership.
* Proven track record of applied fluvial geomorphology, with demonstrable knowledge of river types, sediment dynamics, and hydraulics.
* Excellent understanding of fluvial geomorphological processes and the Water Framework Directive.
* Experience with the planning system, contributing to ES water chapters and WFD assessments.
* Experience in project and budget management.

The Hydromorphology team, part of the Sustainable Water Management Consulting group, is rapidly growing and works on projects such as BNG for rivers and streams, fluvial audits, erosion monitoring, sediment studies, flood alleviation schemes, natural flood management, channel design, and new hydromorphology assessment methods.
