Are you passionate about working at sea and ensuring maritime safety? We’re looking for a reliable and safety-focused Deckhand to join our Marine Services team in Barry.
About The Role
As a Deckhand, you’ll play a key role in supporting the safe and efficient operation of our pilot boat. You’ll assist with vessel handling, maintenance, and the secure transfer of marine pilots to and from ships – all while ensuring the vessel is ready for action in all weather conditions.
Key Responsibilities
* Assist with pilot embarkation and disembarkation
* Handle mooring lines, fenders, and boarding equipment
* Maintain vessel cleanliness and seaworthiness
* Conduct routine maintenance and minor repairs
* Participate in safety drills and operate deck machinery
* Inspect pilot ladders for compliance with safety standards
* Support refuelling, waste disposal, and supply restocking
* Cover additional duties across Barry and Swansea as required
Essential
What We’re Looking For
* ENG1 or ML5 Medical Certificate
* Experience on small commercial or pilot vessels
* Strong understanding of maritime safety and seamanship
* Physically fit and comfortable working in challenging sea conditions
* Team player with good communication skills
* Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends
Desirable
* STCW Basic Safety Training
* Powerboat Level 2 or Advanced
* VHF Radio Operator Certificate
* Knowledge of local port operations and geography
