Main duties of the job
The Director of Nursing and Clinical Practice will lead and oversee the professional leadership, clinical governance, clinical management, training and development of our nursing teams, ensuring safe, effective, and high-quality care. Working in partnership with colleagues you will play a key role in the development of mental health strategies, policies, and procedures within the organisation, as well as developing a robust nursing and training strategy. You will also be responsible for recruiting, mentoring, and developing nursing staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
As a suitable candidate you will be a registered Mental Health Nurse with in-depth knowledge of mental health services and clinical practice. You will have demonstrable leadership experience and a track record of clinical practice and/or quality improvement in acute inpatient, secure or community mental health services in the NHS or Independent Sector.

Job responsibilities
1. Provide leadership and direction to the nursing teams ensuring safe, effective, and high-quality care.
2. Oversee clinical governance, clinical risk management, and nursing care standards across the organisation.
3. Maintain a strong understanding of the Mental Health Act 1983 as amended 2007, Health and Social Care Act 2012, Health and Care Act 2022, Use of Force Act 2018, ensuring all practices are compliant.
4. Regularly review and assess service provision, ensuring services are adaptive to the changing needs of patients and the community.
5. Contribute to the development of mental health strategies, policies, and procedures.
6. Develop a robust Nursing and Training strategy.
7. Develop training needs analyses and ensure the delivery of comprehensive clinical training to nursing teams.
8. Promote evidence-based practice through the facilitation of research and development.
9. Recruit, mentor, and develop nursing staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
10. Engage with stakeholders, families, and patients to ensure patient-centred care.
11. Work in partnership with other senior managers to develop and implement strategic plans.
12. Ensure the efficient and effective use of resources, managing budgets and financial resources responsibly.
13. Lead on Infection Control, Safeguarding, Restrictive Practice, Physical interventions and use of Force for the organisation, ensuring robust measures and practices are in place for the protection of vulnerable individuals and members of staff.
14. Attend Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) meetings when required, ensuring cohesive and integrated care strategies which demonstrate holistic patient care.
15. Be part of the On Call rota and take on the responsibilities as required by the company.

Essential
16. 5 years post registration in the mental health sector or other healthcare related sector. Proven leadership experience and clinical practice and/or quality improvement in acute inpatient, secure or community mental health services in the NHS or Independent Sector. Extensive knowledge of the Mental Health Act 1983 as amended 2007, Use of Force Act 2018 and Health and Social Care Act 2012 and Health and Care Act 2022. Competence in implementing the provisions and stipulations of the Mental Health Act 1983 as amended 2007 in clinical settings. Experience of improving clinical practice, developing and delivering clinical training, and conducting clinical audit. Delivering and monitoring clinical supervision as well as providing mentorship to clinical staff. Commitment to continuous professional development and learning. Experience of managing clinical incidents including safeguarding concerns and developing tangible action plans to address. Demonstrable ability to communicate, present, and influence key stakeholders at senior level.

17. Experience in strategic planning and service development.

Qualifications
Essential
19. Mental Health Nurse with a valid Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) registration. Evidence of further development such as an Advanced Degree in Mental Health Nursing or other clinical field.
