Our team members work vigorously to meet our customers' needs. No two days are the same! Crofton is seeking a Marine Construction Estimator to join our team.
The ideal Marine Construction Estimator shall oversee personnel and prepare estimates, submittals, blueprints, and written specifications for new construction, retrofits, remodels, take-offs, etc. The successful candidate will be responsible for lifecycle planning and estimating the costs of marine construction projects, including bridges, piers, seawalls, and other waterfront structures.
Duties/Responsibilities:
1. Planning and organizing production schedules and assessing project and resource requirements.
2. Developing preliminary construction cost estimates from planning documents; monitoring and reconciling the cost estimate as the design progresses.
3. Reviewing proposal specifications, drawings, attending pre-bid meetings, etc., to determine scope of work and estimate contents.
4. Participating in pre-award engineering and constructability review discussions.
5. Estimating change orders, developing budgets, and reviewing invoices.
6. Preparing estimates by applying unit rates for man-hours, labor, materials, equipment, and all-in unit costs; calculating extensions and applying standard factors, overhead rates, and fees.
7. Reviewing labor productivity to ensure conformance with restrictions and overtime policies.
8. Supporting senior management and assisting the team with schedules, tracking, and dependency management.
9. Collaborating with leads, sub-leads, and producers to gather information and track progress against milestones.
10. Reviewing material pricing and validating against references.
11. Reviewing pre-purchased material, equipment, and rental rates for fairness.
12. Reviewing contractor mark-ups to ensure proper application and compliance with caps.
13. Developing detailed cost estimates from engineering drawings; identifying deficiencies and assisting the project team.
14. Renegotiating timescales and schedules as needed; communicating updates.
15. Visiting projects to understand site conditions and restrictions.
16. Organizing relevant training sessions.
17. Working overtime as required.
18. Performing other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
* Minimum 5 years of field experience in Marine, Underwater, and Diving Construction, with 5 years of direct Marine Construction Estimating experience related to heavy civil and marine projects.
* Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications.
* Excellent communication and presentation skills.
* Strong organizational and time-management skills.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Strong attention to detail.
* Ability to pass background checks and obtain access to federal, state, and local facilities.
* Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Education and Experience:
* Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, technologies, or a related field.
* 5-10 years of experience in marine construction estimating.
* Strong analytical, math, and problem-solving skills.
Physical Requirements:
* Prolonged sitting and driving.
* Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
* Climbing ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles.
* Exposure to construction and marine site hazards.
* Repetitive motions involving wrists, hands, fingers.
* Operating vehicles and heavy equipment.
