The Director of Philanthropy will play a pivotal role in leading the work of the Wellington School Foundation, ensuring that there are strong relationships with our alumni, parents, businesses and the wider community, engaging them in the educational mission of the School, and to enable us to grow the Wellington School Bursary Fund. The role will also build more widely on the principles of fundraising through Partnership, with an aim to engender a culture of giving and collaboration that can support large capital projects and inspire new opportunities for the community.
The Director of Philanthropy is a newly created role for Wellington School. Reporting to the Head, and as a member of the Leadership Team, the successful applicant will take overall responsibility for developing, devising, implementing, and managing a strategic approach to partnerships and fundraising, opening opportunities that help to further transform the lives of those in the community here. The role will deliver the right combination of high-level strategic insight, whilst being hands-on and propositional to drive our growth.
As a key public face for Wellington School, the ideal candidate will be a highly motivated, proactive individual and an exceptional communicator. They will be an entrepreneurial thinker, a collaborator and enjoy networking with others. In possession of strong written and verbal communication skills, they will be able to present confidently to different audiences and know when a personal touch matters. Authenticity, integrity, passion and warmth will likely be felt from those they meet. They will be able to inspire belief, confidence and imagination in others and tell stories that others feel compelled to be part of. Consideration will be given to part time or full time applications, however the nature and seniority of this position means that the Director of Philanthropy needs to be prepared to work such hours that are necessary. Travel (both nationally & internationally) and the ability to work some evenings and Saturdays will be required in order to fulfil the requirements of the role.

Wellington School is a Church of England denominational, co-educational, day and boarding school in Somerset. As of the most recent inspection, there were 900 pupils on the school roll. The school's motto is the opening of Psalm 127; 'If God Be Not With Us, Our Labour is in Vain'. The Senior School teaches pupils between the ages of The school also offers preparatory facilities from the ages of 3 onwards. Founded in 1837 as a boys school, Wellington has been fully independent and co-educational since 1978. The 35 acre site is a combination of traditional and more recent architecture. The school operates in both a boarding and day capacity.
