Project Quantity Surveyor – Energy Sector

We have an exciting opportunity for experienced Project Quantity Surveyors to join our team. You will play a key role in the commercial management of major infrastructure projects, ensuring optimal contract recovery, robust financial management, and compliance with company procedures. The role is targeted at Electricity Transmission and Distribution infrastructure projects. Recent experience with National Grid or SSE is preferred.
This is a remote role initially, then will move to a site project in Lincolnshire.
Responsibilities
* Provide support to Commercial Manager/Senior Commercial Manager.
* Lead and develop efficient management and accurate, timely, and compliant notices and correspondence.
* Identify contractual and commercial risks and opportunities to the Project Director/Manager.
* Prepare monthly progress valuations and claims within deadlines.
* Produce monthly cost reports, forecasts, and contract budget reports.
* Liaise with the customer’s commercial team.
* Implement company commercial policies and procedures consistently.
* Maintain registers of variations, delay, extension of time applications and claims.
* Prepare records of pre‑contract tender negotiations and reports where necessary.
* Review value management and advise on risk management.
* Prepare, review, and complete subcontract documentation.
* Plan change management and cost control.
* Prepare and agree interim applications for payment.
* Prepare and agree final accounts with subcontractors.
* Manage subcontracts from initial placement of order to final account.
* Monitor and update procurement plan, subcontract procurement and analyze commercial comparisons.
* Produce requisition and award letters.
* Reconcile weekly plant, material, labour against budget.
* Assist with and produce change reports, value change report forms, and monitor main contract allocation changes. Report on matters relating to insurances relevant to the project.
* Understand implications of health, safety, and environmental regulations.
* Ensure all health, safety and environmental risk situations are brought to the attention of the Contract Leader/Project Manager.
Qualifications
* Post‑graduate commercial experience in the construction industry with a demonstrable track record of achievement.
* Demonstrable financial and commercial acumen.
* Practical approach, logical thought process and methodical working style.
* Extensive experience setting up and operating office management systems, including filing and document control.
* Extensive experience of drafting effective contractual correspondence and facilitation of collaborative solutions.
* Experience developing and implementing procurement and contract strategies.
* Proven negotiating and team‑working skills, able to motivate and lead a team.
* Strong analytical skills.
* Demonstrable legal, contractual and construction knowledge.
* Confidence and ability to assert influence.
* Full membership of RICS or CICES (or working towards).
