Your role
Ciena is seeking New Graduate Software QA Engineers to complete a placement in our engineering team and help drive the testing and development of the Service Aware Operating System (SAOS), in order to support our customers in developing and deploying their virtualized networks.
As a QA Software Engineer you will be creating and running tests to find defects in a feature. You will review feature design documents, create a testplan, execute tests, raising any bugs you find and work with development engineers to fix that bug. Test Automation is a significant part of the role and you will automate all tests in python to allow continual automated regression tests of images.
As a new hire, you will have an assigned Mentor and access to excellent opportunities to build your knowledge, skills and experience and progress forward within the team.
QA Roles and Responsibilities
1. Participate in review of requirements and contribute to detail specification of features for new networking products
2. Define test plans and test cases, to ensure known quality prior to the release of new features
3. Execute test cases, maintain and report on product feature performance, conformance, and regression status
4. Work closely with engineers across teams to ensure quality for the features.
5. Automate QA testing for the features in each release
6. Share in maintaining core test automation with the team
7. Record and track product defects
8. Recreate customer-reported defects to clarify problem definitions
Knowledge and Experience
9. MCA or M. Tech. or B. Tech. in Computer Science / IT / Electronics / CyberSecurity or similar.
10. An understanding of all stages of a Software development lifecycle
11. Network hardware setup and triage
12. Experience of cloud networks or network virtualization
13. Open Source project contribution
14. Object-oriented python and/or pytest experience desirable (or similiar scripting, and/or C[++] experience).
15. Knowledge and demonstrated usage of Linux OS (ideally Debian) desirable.
16. Any knowledge of Atlassian toolset (Bitbucket, Confluence, Jira)
17. Knowledge of network routers/switches or routing protocols (OSPF, IS-IS, BGP, etc.) and services (DHCP, DNS, etc)
18. Can demonstrate an understanding of computer hardware architecture and operating system architecture.
19. Knowledge of AI/Machine Learning and application of this technology in the QA Lifecycle would also be advantageous.
