Due to our growth, we are seeking a full-time Principal Structural Engineer for Nuclear New Build projects, focusing on Nuclear Island buildings at Hinkley Point C, Sizewell C, and similar projects. This role offers the chance to work on complex nuclear plant structures and develop strong international collaborations.
The Role:
The Principal Structural Engineer will ensure the safety, integrity, and reliability of nuclear power plant structures, managing an international team and overseeing design and structural analysis of reinforced concrete or steel structures.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Lead and manage an international team responsible for critical Nuclear Island buildings.
2. Design and analyze reinforced concrete structures for nuclear buildings, including EPR reactors.
3. Perform structural calculations and finite element modeling using ANSYS or similar software, adhering to standards like Eurocode.
4. Ensure structural resilience under various loads, including seismic and environmental factors.
5. Coordinate with detailing, BIM, and technical teams to integrate design requirements.
6. Assess design changes and propose modifications as needed.
7. Prepare detailed drawings, specifications, and construction documentation.
8. Support during construction and resolve structural issues on-site.
9. Mentor junior engineers and draftsmen.
10. Collaborate with clients, contractors, regulators, and other stakeholders to ensure compliance with safety standards.
11. Follow CDM regulations in design processes.
12. Maintain industry knowledge and incorporate new technologies and practices.
About You:
You should have experience in the nuclear or heavy industry, a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent, and proven expertise in structural design, analysis, and compliance with relevant standards. Experience with EPR nuclear projects, seismic design, and structural software like ANSYS is essential. Professional licensure or chartership is advantageous. Knowledge of BIM tools such as TEKLA or Navisworks is a plus.
