Job Summary
Protecting the environment and eliminating pollution from our wastewater networks is one of the most critical challenges facing our business. We are looking for a talented Data Analyst to play a pivotal role in this ambition - turning complex operational and environmental data into clear insight that drives real-world improvements. You will be at the forefront of this endeavour, exposed at senior levels across the organisation, shaping strategy, informing targeted intervention projects, and providing key analytical input to our Pollution Incident Reduction Plans (PIRP); to help focus effort where it will have the greatest impact.
Working with a high degree of autonomy, the Data Analyst operates in a federated model, collaborating closely with both the central Data & Analytics team and the analytics function embedded within the line of business. They work alongside data engineering, BI teams, and business stakeholders to clarify requirements, validate results, and ensure all outputs are well documented, reproducible, and auditable. The role produces insights, ad‑hoc analysis, and data products that support operational and strategic decision‑making. Analysts are expected to be proactive, with strong foundations in data visualisation, data preparation, and basic statistical analysis, and to work effectively across both central and embedded teams.
Responsibilities
* Produce clear, insightful, and actionable reporting materials.
* Map and design business processes.
* Conduct strong statistical analysis, including data quality assessment and confidence measurement.
* Implement asset‑management planning and analysis processes.
* Work with Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) systems.
* Apply data‑governance practices and standards.
* Understand asset‑management principles and practices.
* Utilise data and analytics technologies such as Qlik or Alteryx.
* Use coding and querying languages such as SQL, Python, or R.
Requirements
* Strong foundations in data visualisation, data preparation, and basic statistical analysis.
* Proactive approach to insights generation and problem‑solving.
* Experience with data and analytics technologies such as Qlik or Alteryx.

* Ability to produce clear, actionable reporting.
Desirable Skills
* Experience with forecasting techniques and confidence in interpreting model outputs.
* Experience developing or improving asset‑management planning processes.
* Familiarity with advanced statistical or modelling concepts.
Security and Vetting
In line with Southern Water's security requirements, successful candidates will be required to provide evidence of their identity, eligibility to work in the UK, criminal record check (DBS) and verification of their employment and/or education history for the past three years. Appointment is subject to successful completion of all pre‑employment checks, including security vetting. Candidates who do not meet the required security standards or fail to pass the vetting process may have the offer withdrawn. Some positions may also require higher levels of security vetting, which may involve providing additional documentation.
