SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Norris Green, Liverpool
Start Date: October 2025
Contract: Full-time, long-term
Pay: £13.75 – £14.50 per hour (dependent on experience)
A welcoming and inclusive primary school in Norris Green is seeking a compassionate and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their team from October 2025. This is a rewarding opportunity for an individual who is passionate about supporting children with additional social, emotional, and behavioural needs.
The successful candidate will work closely with pupils who require targeted support to manage their emotions, build confidence, and engage positively with learning. You will play a key role in helping these children overcome barriers to education by providing consistent encouragement, structure, and understanding throughout the school day.
About the role:
* Supporting pupils with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs on a 1:1 or small group basis
* Assisting in the development of emotional regulation strategies, social skills, and confidence-building activities
* Working in partnership with class teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals to implement behaviour support plans and personalised interventions
* Contributing to a safe, structured, and nurturing learning environment
* Supporting behaviour management and promoting positive choices throughout the school day

The ideal candidate will:
* Have experience supporting children with SEMH needs or challenging behaviour
* Demonstrate patience, empathy, and consistency in their approach
* Be confident implementing behaviour strategies and emotional support plans
* Be able to build trusting relationships with pupils, staff, and families
* Have strong communication and teamwork skills
* Hold a relevant qualification or training (e.g. Team Teach, MAPA, or similar) – desirable but not essential
