Finance Assistant
Location: Altrincham WA14 5UW, full time office based for training, hybrid thereafter. Steadily reducing office days down to 2 per week (depending on training/performance).
Hours: Full time, Mon‑Fri, 09:00‑17:00.
We’re looking for a motivated and career‑driven Finance Assistant to join our Finance team. This is a great opportunity for someone who already has a grounding in finance and wants to grow beyond the basics. The role will initially focus on core finance processes before steadily developing into more complex management accounts work, with the opportunity to progress with AAT studies.
What you’ll do
Reporting into our Financial Controller and working closely with a highly experienced Management Accountant, this role will have exposure across the full finance function. Day‑to‑day responsibilities will include:
* Downloading invoices from portals
Referrals
* Verifying payment eligibility
* Auto‑posting to Proclaim
Purchase Ledger & Payments
* Preparing invoices for payment
* Producing the Purchase Ledger Authorisation Report
* Processing approved BACS and Direct Debit payments
Bank Reconciliations
* Reconciling office bank accounts every 2–3 days
* Requesting missing invoices and resolving discrepancies
* Supporting client bank reconciliations in busy periods
Nominal Analysis & Month‑End Support
* Maintaining analysis spreadsheets
* Handling journals and posting corrections
* Maintaining balance sheet reconciliations
* Assisting with month‑end management accounts
What we’re looking for
* At least 1 year’s experience in an AP/AR / Finance Assistant / Accounts Junior role, or relevant accounting‑degree background
* Strong numerical accuracy and attention to detail
* Genuine desire to build a long‑term finance career
* Comfortable communicating with colleagues at all levels, including directors
* Motivated, proactive and willing to learn
* Whilst not essential, we’d be very interested in applicants who have:
* AAT studies underway/ambition to start AAT
* Analysis experience/an interest in developing analytical skills
* Experience using Proclaim
