A challenging and unusual opportunity to apply proven signalling design skills – with and engage with cross functional projects bringing innovative and complex digital rail control systems as part of a technical delivery team.
Agility Working:
This full-time role is based in the UK and reports to the Design Manager. Your work location will be linked to our Headquarters Offices, but you will be able to work within the company’s “Agility Framework and Hybrid Work Policy”. This Policy is coordinated so that the day-to-day work base in the UK can be adaptable. The company has successfully implemented “TEAMS” as our virtual meeting platform. Attending the offices may be required for essential client meetings, mentor meetings, and peer review.
Fenix has been consistently productive with an agile approach to work location whilst still meeting delivery deadlines. An “Agility Framework” will be agreed with each team member and subject to risk assessment. With reasonable notice, attending site meetings will be subject always to the appropriate Health & Safety guidelines in force. Note: You must be living and authorized to work in the UK to apply for this position.
The person:
Current Design License category 1.1.510 (within the IRSE framework)
HNC or higher qualification in an engineering discipline
Motivated to work toward a Principles License
At least 5 years’ experience
Comprehensive familiarity with computer-based design packages, CAD, and other electronic management systems
Excellent written and spoken English
Self-motivated and comfortable with developing good working relationships in a collaborative setting
Experience with a wide variety of systems, methodology, and applications from a design perspective
Knowledge of signalling equipment and systems within the railway environment
Key Responsibilities:
* Signalling and rail control systems design engineer – delivery of all aspects of signalling and rail control design for a wide variety of projects and technical consulting.
* Self-motivated understanding of finite deadlines and deliverable targets.
* Opportunity to cross-skill and work with multi-functional project specialists both internal and external; whilst achieving continued professional development across a related matrix.
* Participate in the preparation of project programmes with others; including associated time and resource planning.
* Attend client meetings and discussions at project set-up, development, and IDC stages; gaining experience in all the GRIP stages and technical product applications.
* Develop the final design scope from the client’s technical documentation with mentoring.
* Support tender submissions, bid development, materials planning, and project site visits.
* Report and provide feedback on technical review meetings to the design team in weekly project reviews.
* Participate in weekly Design Review “Flash” meetings, contributing constructively to project success.
* Prepare outline designs for review and independent checking.
* Manage programmes closely and be responsible for risk and impact assessments affecting project timelines.
* Undertake survey and correlation work on-site as required.
* Demonstrate good interpersonal skills and broad knowledge of signalling standards.
* Understand mainline and metro light rail systems and their interfaces with other railway assets.
