We are excited to offer an opportunity for a Band 6 Specialist Podiatrist to join our recently integrated Community Podiatry and Diabetes Care For You (DCFY) Podiatry service supporting communities across Brighton & Hove and East Sussex. We also have partnered with the University of Brighton and, from July 2026, will be in our new state‑of‑the‑art podiatry suite on the Falmer Campus, where post holders will have the opportunity to work with all years of podiatry students on placement to help shape the future workforce.
The post will primarily be based in Brighton, however there will be a requirement to travel to satellite clinics across Brighton & Hove and East Sussex. Therefore, a full driving licence and access to a suitable vehicle is a key requirement for this role.
What we’re looking for:
* HCPC‑registered Podiatrist.
* Demonstrable post‑registration experience in a range of clinical areas, including high‑risk foot care.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with patients, carers, and multidisciplinary teams.
* Ability to manage a varied caseload and work flexibly across different clinical environments.
Main duties of the job
As a Specialist Podiatrist, you will:
* Deliver high‑quality podiatric care to a diverse caseload, including patients with diabetes, chronic neuropathy, vascular conditions, and basic wound care needs.
* Work autonomously & collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team across a variety of settings, including community clinics, patients’ homes, residential homes, & hospital clinics.
* Undertake domiciliary visits for housebound patients (non‑complex cases).
* Develop & implement individualised care plans under the guidance of Specialist Lead Podiatrists.
* Play an active role in the support, supervision, and development of undergraduate and postgraduate podiatry students.
* Maintain accurate clinical records, ensure equipment and stock are managed in line with departmental protocols.

Job responsibilities
* Provide podiatry treatment for a wide range of patients within the service criteria.
* Work as an autonomous practitioner, professionally and legally accountable for clinical decisions.
* Assess, diagnose, plan, implement, and evaluate podiatric care for patients with diverse clinical needs, including:
o Diabetes
o Chronic neuropathy
o Chronic diseases (e.g., rheumatoid arthritis)
o Vascular problems
o Basic wound management and tissue viability
* Deliver domiciliary care to housebound patients assessed as appropriate.
* Develop individualised care plans under the guidance of Specialist Lead Podiatrists.
* Participate in rotations (for Band 5s) to gain experience in specialist areas of podiatry.
* Undertake new patient assessments (post‑orientation), develop care packages, and provide foot care education.
* Maintain clinical competencies relevant to the Trust’s Foot Protection Team.

* Communicate effectively with patients, carers, colleagues, and students, including managing sensitive or challenging situations.

* Participate in clinical supervision, training, and departmental appraisals.
* Support service development initiatives and contribute to quality improvement.
* Provide cover and undertake other duties as directed by the Podiatry Operational Lead or deputy.
Person specification
Qualifications
* BSc (Hons) Podiatry
* Registered with the Health Professions Council
* Certificate in Nail Surgery and Local Anaesthesia
Experience
* 3 years full‑time degree course i/c 1100 hours clinical practice
* Experience in management of high‑risk cases within a supervised environment
* Knowledge of current NHS
Skills and knowledge
* Good written and verbal communication skills
* Ability to work in a team
* Ability to devise a treatment plan for patients under your care
* Ability to network and interact with staff from other disciplines
