Job Description:
The Transportation Supervisor supports the daily operations, scheduling, and maintenance of the university’s transportation services, including the ODU Main Campus and the Medical Campus. This role ensures the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of transit programs, including fixed-route, on-demand, ADA and Special Event Transportation. The position involves direct supervision of drivers, coordination of transportation activities, vehicle inspections, customer service, and administrative support. The Transportation Supervisor is responsible for: Supervising and coordinating transit operations including fixed route, on-demand, ADA, and Special Event Transportation requests. Planning and scheduling driver assignments, ensuring appropriate coverage for all shifts, Special Event Transportation, and driving in situations of shortages. Maintaining accurate operational records, including incident/accident reports, vehicle maintenance logs, and Special Event Transportation documentation. Working with Transportation Manager and Vehicle Service Center to schedule vehicle inspections to ensure compliance with university safety standards; schedule preventative maintenance and repairs as needed. Training, mentoring, and evaluating drivers on safety practices, customer service, and university procedures. Responding to transportation-related inquiries, concerns, and emergencies in a professional and timely manner. Supporting implementation of transportation technologies. Assisting in reviewing policies and procedures to increase operational efficiency and reduce costs. Monitoring and promoting compliance with all applicable federal, state, and university regulations and safety standards. Minimum Qualifications:
Considerable knowledge of effective customer service and problem resolution techniques. Basic knowledge of the Commonwealth of Virginia Motor Vehicle laws. Working knowledge of occupational hazards, safety precautions, and regulations related to multi-passenger vehicle operations. Working knowledge of administrative processes, procedures, software and systems used in maintaining records, preparing a variety of documents with Microsoft Office, and other related administrative activities. Effective oral and written communication skills, including use of radio communications. Effective time management and organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to use technology including PCs, tablet computers, and network information systems. Demonstrated ability to interpret, inform and follow established Transportation and Parking Services policies and procedures. Demonstrated ability to accurately and legibly complete routine forms and reports. Demonstrated ability to respond quickly using sound judgment to make appropriate decisions in stressful situations.Additional Considerations:
