Owner Managed Business Tax Manager
A large, well‑established independent firm of chartered accountants and business advisers with a strong presence across the South West, including a substantial Bristol office. The firm works with a broad and loyal client base of owner‑managed businesses, entrepreneurs, and growing companies, and is known for delivering commercially focused, partner‑led advice in a collaborative and supportive culture.
The Role
This is a client‑facing role focused on providing tax compliance and advisory services to owner‑managed businesses and their owners, with responsibility for managing client relationships and supporting the development of junior team members. The role offers strong long‑term progression opportunities, including a pathway to Senior Manager and Director for the right individual.
Key Responsibilities
* Managing a portfolio of OMB clients, acting as their primary tax adviser
* Reviewing corporation tax and personal tax returns for business owners and directors
* Providing tax planning and advisory support including:
o Remuneration strategies (dividends vs salary, extraction planning)
o Business structuring and reorganisations
o Incorporations and business growth planning
o Capital gains tax and entrepreneurs’ relief (BADR) matters
* Working closely with accounts and audit teams to deliver integrated client service
* Identifying advisory opportunities and contributing to business development
* Managing workflow, budgets, and deadlines across the client portfolio
* Coaching, reviewing, and developing junior tax staff
* Supporting partners with more complex advisory projects and client meetings
Candidate Requirements
* CTA qualified (or ACA/ACCA with strong tax experience)
* Strong background in OMB tax within UK accountancy practice
* Experience of managing a mixed compliance and advisory client portfolio
