Stoneleaf Building Materials is an independent, family-owned, roofing supplier and distributor with a loyal customer base and plenty of opportunity to grow. We are now looking for an ambitious and hands-on Branch Manager to lead our Chelmsford distribution centre and trade counter.
We are looking for someone ambitious to take ownership of the role, help the branch grow its customer base, and drive sales. You will be at the heart of the branch’s success, building strong customer relationships, motivating and developing your team, and driving operational and commercial performance every day.
As Branch Manager, you’ll take full responsibility for the branch’s results, ensuring exceptional customer service, efficient operations, and a positive, high-performing team culture. You’ll be empowered to make decisions, identify opportunities for growth, and shape the future success of the branch.

What you’ll be doing:
* Managing the day-to-day operations, focusing on sales, stock, and staff.
* Build and maintain strong relationships with local contractors, roofers and trade customers.
* Monitor pricing, margins and competitor activity in the local market.
* Maintain standards of health & safety and compliance.
* Coach team members to improve sales, service and product knowledge.
* Manage and monitor ongoing training of staff members through ‘toolbox’ talks and product updates.
* Manage delivery logistics and transport management.
What we’re looking for:
* Experience in a merchant environment with strong product knowledge.
* Ability to handle escalated customer queries or complaints professionally.
* Demonstrate you can support key accounts to strengthen long-term relationships.
* Someone who takes pride in their branch and their team.
Additional Skills
* Full UK driving License
* Experience using a counterbalance forklift is advantageous
General working hours 7:30-16:30 Mon-Fri
