Senior Scientist Job Purpose:

Responsible for performing day-to-day operations at the Cytomos Cell Culture Facility based at the Technopole in Penicuik, including cell culture and experimental work on both customer and internal projects to generate biologically relevant data with Cytomos instruments. Assist with all aspects of promoting Cytomos technology including providing customer support and training, as well as data analysis and report writing.


Additional information:

This position is predominantly lab and office based on our Edinburgh premises and the successful applicant would be expected to be onsite at least 4 days per week. Some weekend work and offsite travel for work at client premises may also be required on occasion.

Key Responsibilities:

· Meeting customer and project expectations within set deadlines.

· Day-to-day cell culture and performing cell testing with our Cytomos platform.

· Critical data analytics skills and professional report writing, meeting consistently high scientific standards.

· Assisting with laboratory operations, including ordering, inventory management, scheduling and cleaning.

· Contributing to a fast growing and highly capable, cross-disciplinary team of biological scientists and engineers.

· Supporting the experimental plans required to deliver the biology team function.

· Provide post-sales support and training on the use of our AuraCyt™ Instruments, technology and data analysis platform to customers.

· Actively contributing to our product development by providing feedback to the engineering team regarding software and instrument performance, improvements and bugs.

· Ensuring compliance with Cytomos’ policies, procedures and guidelines, together with all relevant regulatory and statutory requirements.

· Engaging with the company’s appraisal process, and demonstrate commitment to our values, behaviours and your continuous personal development.

Essential Skills/ Experience

An appropriate BSc degree in life sciences (e.g., biological sciences, biomedical science)

Minimum of five years industry experience.

Minimum of three years industry (or equivalent) experience in mammalian cell culture and aseptic techniques.

Scientific writing including independent production of high quality reports.

Demonstrated the ability to work independently and within a close-knit team.

Communication: Communicating with the Head of Bioscience/CSOO and other internal teams to ensure Celledonia™ and AuraCyt™ technology testing and customer engagements are in line with the Cytomos Programme Management System.

Commercial awareness: Maintain a customer-focused mindset. Compile required documentation.

Laboratory skills and teamwork: Required to perform laboratory related tasks such as tissue culture, AuraCyt™ technology assessment and routine cell-based assays (e.g. flow cytometry) for internal testing and customer projects carried out in-house.

Quality awareness: Perform contemporaneous data recording of high standards. Contributing to the generation of protocols and other controlled documents in line with the Cytomos Quality policy.

H&S awareness: Complete and review laboratory H&S documentation such as SOPs, Risk Assessments and COSHH as required for each project.

Exceptional written and oral communication: For practical work and reporting. Ensure accurate data interpretation and reporting of data in line with project timelines and support the Head of Bioscience in producing new content and compilation of reports and white papers.

Ability to work under pressure, adapt to multitude of diverse mindsets and technical backgrounds.

Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to listen to, understand and build rapport with customers.

Can plan ahead, organise their work, take into account the potential for change.

Can use your initiative to resolve problems by finding solutions.

Self-motivated with an eye for detail; maintenance of high standards.

Desirable Skills/ Experience

A PhD degree in life sciences (e.g., biological sciences, biomedical science).

Knowledge of flow cytometry

Knowledge of cell line development (CLD)

Knowledge of assays such as ELISA, qPCR and other cell-based assays.

Experience in GLP/GMP/ISO standards.

Worked with external collaborators and customers.

Laboratory experience including maintenance, cleaning, inventory management and procurement (anticipating workloads), liaising with suppliers, etc.
