Specialist Occupational Therapist – Non UK Residents

Job overview

We are offering a rare and exciting opportunity to join our Occupational Therapy Team based at Westmorland General Hospital as a Specialist Occupational Therapist.

The role includes a specialist caseload across an in‑patient and community setting, with opportunities to work alongside our integrated community services.

Knowledge and experience within acute inpatient care, to facilitate safe and effective care and hospital discharge. Your caseload will be a combination of ward‑based work in addition to some community visits.

Develop your knowledge and experience in the assessment, treatment and goal setting with patients presenting with varied physical conditions, and be motivated to improve our patients’ experiences and outcomes.


Main duties of the job

Broad previous experience within an acute inpatient, admission avoidance or community‑based rehabilitation services.

Work with a dedicated and motivated team of Occupational Therapists and work closely with colleagues across the MDT and complex discharge team. Be supported by Occupational Therapy Team Managers and the role will include supervision and support to Occupational Therapy team members and students. Engage in service development.

All staff are encouraged to engage in in‑service training and CPD is well supported by the management team.


Requirements

* A Diploma or Degree in Occupational Therapy approved by the Royal College of Occupational Therapists
* Registration with HCPC as an Occupational Therapist
* The ability to travel to a variety of venues throughout the community to deliver patient assessments within an identified locality and to attend meetings


Education and Qualification

* HCPC registered Occupational Therapist
* Diploma or Degree in Occupational Therapy approved by the RCOT, UK
* Post graduate training or experience to post graduate diploma level or equivalent
* Accredited training in risk assessment and risk management
* Practice placement educator accreditation
* Member of the BAOT


Experience

* Relevant post registration experience as an OT to achieve knowledge and skills applicable to this post.
* Post registration experience in a relevant clinical area
* Experience of research or audit
* Experience as a supervisor of OT (Band 5) and/or OT support staff and/or OT students


Knowledge and Skills

* Transferable knowledge and skills at basic practitioner level with aptitude to develop to specialist OT practitioner level.
* Ability to analyse professional and ethical issues
* Assessment, observation, evaluation and reporting skills
* Knowledge of current best practice in OT
* Ability to develop effective working relationships / team working.
* Ability to reflect and critically appraise own performance
* Applied knowledge of health and social care legislation and guidelines
* Ability to apply knowledge of the principles of clinical governance
* Application of knowledge of Health & Safety and risk management policies and related procedures.
* Effective personal organisational skills to manage own workload and to determine priorities to support delivery of the site OT service
* Supervisory skills
* Clinical work experience at OT Band 5 grade in a variety of clinical areas in an acute hospital setting and community.


Personal Qualities

* Ability to travel as required
* Ability to meet the physical requirements of the post.
* Ability to participate in manual handling tasks and therapeutic handling, using skills developed through practice, including dexterity, coordination and physical effort, during OT interventions and the use of specialist tools and materials and installation of equipment.

Anyone newly appointed to the trust under the Agenda For Change contract will be subject to the completion of a satisfactory 6 month probationary period. This will give the new staff member an opportunity to become familiar with the role and working environment.
