Job Description:
This role within the GM Motorsports Program involves developing performance metrics, conceptualizing innovative analysis methods, and implementing these techniques to enhance on-track performance. As a Senior Performance Engineer, you will focus on validating, refining, and applying new tools and methods to optimize vehicle setups for specific events and explore new directions for future vehicle development. Collaboration with the Performance Engineering group, GM Motorsports team, and customer race teams is essential.
Responsibilities include:
1. Collaborating with GM supported teams and engineering groups to identify analysis areas for maximum benefit.
2. Answering questions across all GM Motorsports groups to build knowledge.
3. Brainstorming and developing new ways to achieve greater performance.
4. Training others in models and analysis techniques.
5. Presenting findings and updates through reports and meetings.
6. Improving analysis methods and vehicle dynamics understanding by prototyping and validating new ideas.
7. Working with software teams to implement solutions.
8. Exploring limits of current tools and developing better techniques.
9. Conducting conceptual studies for big-picture development.
10. Using simulation and analysis tools to improve on-track performance.
11. Communicating results clearly and effectively.
Qualifications:
* Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Physics, or related field.
* 5+ years in top-level motorsports series (NASCAR, IMSA, F1, IndyCar, WEC, etc.).
* Knowledge of simulation workflows, offline simulation, and DIL simulators.
* Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, C#, or similar.
* Experience analyzing on-track performance using vehicle dynamics and statistical methods.
* Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
* Ability to multitask in a dynamic environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Race engineering experience, including vehicle setup and race procedures.
* Proficiency with motorsports data analysis software (Pi Toolbox, Atlas, Motec).
* Experience with multibody modeling (Dymola/Modelica, ADAMS).
* Knowledge of tire modeling, aerodynamics, and vehicle testing methods.
