The Monitoring Data & Systems Team (MDS) manages key environmental monitoring systems and datasets. As a Technical Advisor you will support and enhance our Water Quality systems and data, and assist with other systems as required. Your responsibilities include:
* Setting up and managing users
* Supporting users and resolving issues, especially during the transition to our new My Environment application
* Updating, improving and maintaining datasets
* Responding to internal and external data requests
* Supporting system improvement and upgrade projects
You will also undertake mandatory training and participate in incident response duties, a critical component of agency operations. The role offers a competitive benefits package, generous annual leave, a strong pension scheme, extensive training opportunities and a flexible working arrangement.
Key experience and skills:
* Experience working with large, complex datasets
* Willingness to develop new technical skills and apply them across monitoring data and systems
* Motivated, organized, friendly with an eye for detail and comfortable in a dispersed team environment
* Proactive problem‑solving ability
* Excellent written and verbal communication for both technical and non‑technical audiences
* Ability to build and maintain strong relationships, deliver through others, and provide excellent customer service
Desirable experience and skills:
* Experience managing environmental monitoring data systems
* Experience with PowerBI, Access, Excel, Python, SharePoint Online and R
* Working knowledge of water‑quality monitoring
Work location is flexible; you must have a base at one of our offices across England and attend occasional meetings. Interviews will be conducted via MS Teams at the end of December or beginning of January. An apprenticeship will be available for the successful candidate.
