Overview
The Specialist Community Forensic Team (SCFT) posts a full‑time Consultant Psychiatrist in Billericay (2 Heath Close). The post provides cover across Southend‑on‑Sea, Essex and Thurrock, handling community work, gatekeeping assessments, and liaison for general adult services, the Criminal Justice Service and the East of England Specialist Commissioners.
Key Responsibilities
* Work independently within a multidisciplinary clinical team providing 24/7, 365‑day service.
* Prepare and attend Section 12 reports, Managers Hearings, and Tribunals for patients under care.
* Communicate routinely with the Ministry of Justice for patients on hospital or restriction orders.
* Attend weekly referrals meetings and mandatory monthly PDP meetings, presenting where appropriate.
* Conduct gatekeeping assessments to determine suitability for admission.
* Collaborate with forensic social workers, psychologists, occupational therapists and external agencies such as general adult psychiatrists and criminal justice teams.
* Liaise with commissioners and the regional Provider Collaborative for gatekeeping assessments and bed‑management meetings.
* Perform any additional duties delegated by the director or chief executive.
Qualifications & Appointments
* Full GMC registration and Specialist Register status (Forensic Psychiatry CCT or equivalent). If within six months of obtaining CCT, must be on AAC by appointment date.
* Section 12 approval required.
