The Role

1. Process a broad range of specialist and routine laboratory diagnostic investigations in Microbiology using a range of scientific measurements and technical procedures on patient samples.
2. Provides advice to clinicians and other healthcare staff as to appropriateness of tests and time-scales.
3. Responsible for own work and uses specialist training to operate complex equipment and solve problems.
4. Acts as a mentor to less experienced Biomedical Scientists and participates in training /supervision of Trainee Biomedical Scientists and Medical Laboratory Assistants.

What we'll need you to bring

5. State registration with the Health Professions Council is mandatory.
6. BSc honours degree in Biomedical Science or equivalent, which is acceptable for Health Professions Council registration.
7. Formal evidence of specialist knowledge of a range of discipline specific procedures.
8. Evidence of continuing professional development, for example, a specialist portfolio of development, attendance at specialist courses, training on new instrumentation and learning through reflective practice.
9. Cross-site working to be expected
10. Must participate in days, evenings, weekends and on-call

Please note for all vacancies where a driving licence is required this must be a full UK/EU/EEA licence.

It would be great if you also have

11. Previous experience as Biomedical Scientist in NHS laboratory environment
12. Specialist knowledge of Microbiology.
13. Team worker
14. Good communication skills
15. Good organisational skills

Location and Working Pattern

This role involves cross site working and will be based between University Hospital Hairmyres, University Hospital Monklands & University Hospital Wishaw

The working pattern for this role includes Days, Evenings and Weekends.
