Job Summary
Provide high standard, efficient and effective physiotherapy assessment, treatment and intervention for all patients for whom you are responsible. Manage your own caseload as an autonomous practitioner, maintain comprehensive records, work as an effective team member, supervise physiotherapy assistants, teach MDT staff and undertake evidence‑based projects throughout each rotation to enhance patient care.
Rotational Scheme
Four‑month rotations covering Musculoskeletal Outpatients, Orthopaedics (trauma and elective), Elderly Rehabilitation, acute & general Medicine, Respiratory (including ICU & Surgery), and Acute & Rehabilitation Neurology. Duties delegated by the Clinical Lead Physiotherapist.
Main Duties
* Provide physiotherapy assessment and treatment to patients on a designated caseload.
* Use clinical reasoning to deliver evidence‑based physiotherapy in line with national and Trust guidelines.
* Attend multidisciplinary team meetings, family meetings and board rounds; integrate physiotherapy management into MDT treatment and discharge plans.
* Advise, guide, delegate and teach physiotherapy assistants in assessment, management and record keeping.
* Maintain comprehensive and accurate written records; provide discharge information to referring clinicians.
* Communicate effectively with patients, carers and multidisciplinary team; provide education and training as appropriate.
* Work flexible hours, including weekends and extended hours; participate in on‑call and weekend rosters after competency approval.
* Engage in quality improvement, audit programmes, education programmes and in‑service training; lead some sessions according to rotation.
* Undertake an evidence‑based project during each rotation, such as developing treatment protocols, audits or literature reviews; present findings to the team.
* Maintain personal competency through CPD activity, portfolio development and supervision of undergraduate physiotherapy students.
* Ensure safe and tidy treatment areas, competent equipment use and report faulty equipment to the Clinical Lead Physiotherapist.
Person Specification
Essential
* Degree in Physiotherapy.
* HCPC registration.
* Wide‑ranging student experience, including respiratory, musculoskeletal and neuro rehabilitation assessment and treatments.
* IT skills, including keyboard and word processing.
* Able to manage a caseload efficiently.
* Demonstrated patient‑centred approach in clinical work.
* Accurate and logical patient record keeping.
* Skill in dealing with people who have difficulty communicating.
* Judgement to establish appropriate physiotherapy management programmes for patients across a range of clinical areas.
Desirable
* MCSP qualification.
Job Details
Band 5 – Salary £36,943 to £44,900 a year (including high cost allowance). Contract: Permanent. Working pattern: Full‑time. Location: Princess Royal University Hospital, Farnborough Common, Orpington, BR6 8ND, United Kingdom.
