Job overview
Liverpool Wheelchair Service are looking for two enthusiastic and motivated Band 3 Wheelchair Service Support Workers to join our team. The successful candidate will provide support to enable the assessment and provision of wheelchairs and pressure management to clients within the Liverpool GP population.
We are a friendly and supportive multidisciplinary team of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Clinical Engineers, Assistant Practitioners, warehouse operatives and administrators.
You will work alongside the therapists to support the patient journey through the service. This will include supporting a mixture of clinics and visits in the community.
The skills required for this post include being proactive, caring and being an effective team player with excellent organisational and communication skills required to work in a busy service.
We are predominantly a clinic-based service but also see patients in other environments such as schools, hospitals, and their own homes. We assess and prescribe manual wheelchairs, active user wheelchairs and electric powered chairs, along with posture/pressure management and specialist seating systems.
Main duties of the job
* Supporting the wheelchair therapists and clinical engineers in the wheelchair assessment and provision and prescription of wheeled mobility, pressure care and postural support.
* Ensuring clinics are set up and ready for assessments and equipment is ready for visits.
* Supporting with the moving and handling of patients using a variety of transfer aids including hoists.
* Supporting therapists on joint visits in the community; the service has a fleet of vans to enable the delivery of equipment. Candidates will be required to drive the vans as part of their role.
* Supporting patients through the clinic process and completion of outcome measures and information gathering.
* Handover of equipment under the supervision/direction of a therapist/clinical engineer.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Support patients throughout their clinical journey and individual needs are met.
Support colleagues with minor room adaptation/equipment required prior to clinical assessments.
Ensure equipment is correctly located and supported in the appropriate vehicle to facilitate efficient domestic appointments.
Carry out specific duties that contribute to the assessment of patients requested by a qualified practitioner.
Assist therapists in clinical and domiciliary settings with moving and handling of patients, including the use of hoists.
Be considerate of patients’ needs and preferences when undertaking moving and handling.
Assist clinicians with the provision of equipment and wheelchairs under the instruction of a qualified practitioner.
Complete minor adjustments of wheelchairs in accordance with guidance.
Deliver and hand over wheelchairs and cushions in accordance with service guidance and procedures.
Process orders for standard wheelchairs and equipment through TCS system.
Support the booking of appointments and processing of referrals and other administrative tasks as required.
Support warehouse team to ensure stock is kept according to provision.
Support the wider CEDAS service as required.
Undertake assessment of environment for the safe delivery and installation of equipment.
Adjust and demonstrate the safe use of equipment to patients, service users, family and carers.
Communicate effectively with members of the multidisciplinary team.
Report any incidents or concerns regarding equipment to the appropriate person (e.g., supervisor/warehouse manager).
Maintain general warehouse and store keeping duties where required.
Ensure accurate, timely and appropriate entries into health records in accordance with Trust standards.
Participate in clinical and professional meetings within the service to support effective two-way communication.
Seek advice and further training, if appropriate.
Make the qualified practitioner aware of any incidents arising during a span of duty and carry out any actions arising from this as directed.
Take reasonable care of the health and safety of themselves and others in the working environment and comply with instructions on safe moving and handling practice.
Attend health and safety equipment awareness training to maintain up-to-date skills and knowledge.
Keep up to date with mandatory training.
