The Opportunity Bolton is a town with a prestigious scientific and industrial legacy, from the birth of the British textile industry to cutting-edge research in modern engineering and healthcare. We are seeking a passionate Science Teacher to join our faculty. In this role, you will be responsible for sparking curiosity and developing the next generation of innovators, helping students master the laws of physics, the complexities of biology, and the reactions of chemistry. The Department You will join a high-energy Science team that treats the laboratory as a place of discovery, prioritizing practical, hands-on learning to ground theoretical concepts. The department is exceptionally well-resourced with modern laboratories, advanced data-logging equipment, and a dedicated team of technicians—including specialists experienced in trust-wide support and health and safety. We utilize a "Spiral Curriculum," ensuring that core concepts in energy, matter, and living organisms are revisited and deepened as students progress from Key Stage 3 to GCSE. We benefit from strong links with regional STEM hubs and universities, offering students opportunities for "real-world" science through workshops and site visits. Core Responsibilities Delivering high-impact lessons across all three sciences at Key Stage 3 and specializing in your core discipline (Biology, Chemistry, or Physics) at GCSE and A-Level. Teaching students the "Scientific Method"—from formulating hypotheses to conducting rigorous experiments and analysing data with statistical precision. Preparing Year 11 and Year 13 students for their final examinations, with a particular focus on the "Required Practicals" and the application of scientific theory to unfamiliar contexts. Implementing effective "Dual Coding" and "Retrieval Practice" strategies to help students retain complex scientific terminology and abstract concepts. Leading extracurricular initiatives such as "Science Week" projects, eco-committees, or competitive STEM challenges. The Successful Candidate We are looking for a specialist who can make the microscopic and the cosmic feel immediate and relevant. Requirements include: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a degree in a Science-based discipline (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or Biomedical Sciences). A proven ability to manage a laboratory environment safely, fostering a culture of curiosity while maintaining strict adherence to CLEAPSS health and safety guidelines. Strong subject knowledge across the current GCSE and A-Level specifications, with the ability to challenge high-attainers through advanced scientific enquiry. Excellent pedagogical skills, particularly the ability to use modelling and analogy to explain difficult abstract concepts. Why Join Us? A school that recognizes Science as a flagship subject, essential for students' success in the North West’s growing tech and healthcare sectors. Access to a structured professional development program focused on both pedagogical innovation and technical laboratory skills. A supportive, professional staff culture within a town that offers a high quality of life, affordable living, and immediate access to the West Pennine Moors. Located in a central North West hub with exceptional rail and road links to Manchester, Preston, and the wider Greater Manchester area.
