Introduction

A supportive and inclusive primary school located within the London Borough of Ealing is currently seeking a dedicated and motivated Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) to join its growing support team. This role offers an excellent opportunity for an individual who is passionate about supporting children with additional needs and is committed to helping them overcome barriers to learning in a nurturing educational environment.

The successful candidate will work closely with pupils who require targeted SEN support, helping them to engage with learning, develop emotionally and socially, and build the confidence needed to succeed both in school and beyond.

School Context and Ethos

The school is based in a diverse and vibrant area of Ealing and serves a community that values inclusion, respect, and collaboration. The leadership team has created a strong culture of support, ensuring that SEN provision is embedded across the school rather than isolated within a single department.

The school places a strong emphasis on understanding each child as an individual. Pupils with SEN are supported through clear routines, structured interventions, and consistent expectations, all delivered in a calm and encouraging environment.

The school offers:

* A clear and well-established SEN framework

* A highly experienced and approachable SENCO

* Strong collaboration between teachers and support staff

* Access to external specialists such as speech and language therapists and educational psychologists

* Ongoing training and development opportunities for SEN staff

SEN Teaching Assistants are valued members of the school team and are actively involved in planning, review meetings, and professional discussions.

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will support pupils across a range of ages and abilities. Pupils may present with:

* Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)

* Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

* Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs

* Speech, language, and communication difficulties

* Sensory processing differences

* Learning delays and developmental differences

Support may be delivered on a one-to-one basis or through small group interventions, depending on individual needs and school priorities. Some pupils may require consistent support throughout the school day, while others may need targeted assistance during specific lessons or activities.

-----------------------------------

Key Responsibilities

Your responsibilities as an SEN Teaching Assistant will include:

* Providing consistent, individualised support to pupils with SEN

* Supporting pupils to access the curriculum and participate fully in lessons

* Working alongside the class teacher to adapt learning materials

* Implementing strategies from EHCPs and SEN support plans

* Supporting pupils with emotional regulation and behaviour management

* Encouraging positive social interaction and communication

* Supporting transitions between lessons and activities

* Assisting during break times and lunchtimes when required

* Recording observations and sharing progress updates with teachers and SEN staff

* Supporting personal care needs where required, always with dignity and respect

* Helping to maintain a calm, safe, and inclusive learning environment

You will be expected to promote independence while ensuring pupils feel supported and secure.

-----------------------------------

The Ideal Candidate

The school is seeking an SEN Teaching Assistant who is:

* Patient, empathetic, and understanding

* Emotionally resilient and able to manage challenging situations

* Passionate about inclusive education and SEN support

* Confident working with pupils who may display challenging behaviour

* A strong communicator and effective team player

* Flexible and adaptable to the changing needs of pupils

Previous experience working with children with SEN is highly desirable, whether in a school, care, or support setting. However, candidates with transferable skills and a strong commitment to SEN are also encouraged to apply.

-----------------------------------

Skills, Knowledge, and Attributes

Essential skills and attributes include:

* A basic understanding of special educational needs and inclusion

* Confidence in following behaviour support plans

* Strong observational and reporting skills

* Ability to remain calm under pressure

* Willingness to engage in training and professional development

* A proactive and positive approach to problem-solving

Formal SEN qualifications are not essential, as training and ongoing support will be provided.

Training and Career Development

The school is committed to developing its SEN staff and offers:

* Regular SEN-focused training sessions

* Safeguarding and behaviour management training

* Support and mentoring from experienced SEN professionals

* Opportunities to progress into senior SEN TA or specialist roles

This role is ideal for individuals considering future careers in teaching, educational psychology, speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, or child mental health services.
