Locum Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

We are delighted to invite candidates to apply to work with us in this dynamic, expanding Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department in a beautiful area of North Yorkshire. The department serves the historic city of York, the seaside resort of Scarborough and the spa town of Harrogate.
This post is based at York and Scarborough Hospitals for a period of 12 months, with the possibility of extension. Sixteen posts are available with flexibility for part‑time work.
Candidates must have full GMC registration and sufficient experience in the specialty to work independently in clinic and theatre.
Job responsibilities
The Maxillofacial Surgery team carries out a large number of surgical procedures for facial cutaneous malignancy each year. Responsibilities include:
* Participation in the weekly Skin MDT and Head & Neck MDT at the York site.
* Management of OMFS head and neck cancer jointly with colleagues in Hull and Leeds.
* Membership of the monthly Orthognathic MDT with orthodontics, 3D planning and laboratory support.
* Contribution to the on‑call rota across North Yorkshire, ideally on a 1:6 basis (7‑day pattern with Friday morning handover).
* Participation in teaching medical students from the Hull York Medical School (HYMS).
* Engagement in research opportunities within the department.
Qualifications
* Medical qualification registered with the GMC.
* Registerable qualification with the GDC.
* Licence to practise with the General Medical Council.
* MD or equivalent higher degree or evidence of relevant research.
* Substantive NHS experience.
Clinical practice / competence
* Demonstrated clinical experience and skill in oral and maxillofacial surgery.
* Experience working in an MDT environment.
Mentoring and teaching
* Experience of teaching undergraduate and postgraduate trainees.
* Experience of undertaking quality improvement projects and presenting findings.
Communication
* Effective communication and relationship skills.
