THE BUSINESS
My excellent client is a well-established, family-run transport and logistics business with roots stretching back over 50 years in the North East. Built on reputation, reliability, and exceptional customer service, they have developed long-standing relationships with clients across a wide range of industries.
Despite their success and growth, they remain a close-knit business with a team of approximately 15 employees, including a dedicated fleet of around 12 professional drivers. They combine the personal approach of a family business with the capability and expertise to deliver specialist transport solutions throughout the UK and Europe.

As part of my clients continued growth plans, they are seeking an experienced and ambitious Transport Operations Manager to lead and develop their transport operation. This is a newly created position to add additional leadership prowess to help the Owner of the business day to day.
Reporting directly to the business owner, this is a senior leadership position offering the opportunity to shape the future of a respected and growing logistics business. You will take full responsibility for operational performance, driver management, compliance, customer service, profitability, and strategic development.

DUTIES

Lead and manage all transport operations across the business.
Oversee and support a team of approximately 11 drivers.
Ensure full compliance with Operator Licence requirements, transport legislation, and industry regulations.
Drive operational efficiency, service quality, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Manage fleet utilisation, route planning, and resource allocation.
Develop strong relationships with customers and key stakeholders.
Monitor and improve operational KPIs, profitability, and performance metrics.
Maintain the highest standards of health, safety, and compliance.
Work closely with the owners to implement strategic objectives and long-term business plans.
Lead, motivate, and develop employees while fostering a positive team culture. THE PERSON
The successful candidate will be a proven transport leader with strong commercial awareness and a hands-on approach.
You will have:

Significant experience in a senior transport or logistics management role.
Strong experience within costings and finance, this is a key aspect of the role.
Strong knowledge of UK transport legislation and compliance requirements.
Experience managing drivers, fleet operations, and transport planning functions.
Excellent leadership and people management skills.
Commercial acumen with the ability to improve operational performance and profitability.
Strong customer relationship management skills.
The ability to operate strategically whilst remaining involved in day-to-day operations.
CPC qualification (preferred) but not essential.
