The role will be based across sites within East Lancashire to assist in the smooth running of the Community Neurodevelopmental Paediatric outpatient clinics.
Responsibilities
* Assist the Community Neurodevelopmental Paediatrics Team by providing a high‑quality clinic nurse service across all sites and ensuring the smooth running of outpatient clinics.
* Use sound management and organisational skills to plan and prioritise workload.
* Act as a patient advocate, ensuring privacy, dignity and confidentiality are maintained.
* Monitor patient satisfaction, identify and address any issues proactively, and provide an efficient, non‑judgmental reception service to all visitors.
* Maintain stock levels of all relevant forms, leaflets and supplies within clinic rooms and assist with general clerical duties such as photocopying.
* Answer telephone calls courteously, take messages and refer calls appropriately, preserving confidentiality and following written protocols.
* Communicate effectively and appropriately when conflicts arise within the clinic setting and work independently without direct supervision.
* Liaise with the wider multi‑disciplinary team and other agencies, recognising professional boundaries and seeking support where needed.
* Recognise signs and symptoms of illness in children and act accordingly, ensuring all equipment and toys meet safety standards.
* Maintain the cleanliness and annual maintenance of equipment in the weighing room and ensure the clinic environment is suitable for its intended purpose.
* Support the induction and orientation of new staff and students to the department.
* Adhere to the Trust uniform policy.
* Promote professional working relationships with parents, colleagues and the multi‑disciplinary team while maintaining and, where required, justifying any breach of confidentiality.
* Provide reassurance and emotional support to children, carers and parents and collect growth measurements and blood pressure/heart‑rate readings, documenting and escalating results to the consultant or specialist practitioner.
* Attend regular meetings appropriate to the role.
Essential Criteria
* NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care (or willing to work towards it) and NVQ Level 3 (or willing to work towards it).
* Significant experience of working with children and their families.
* Basic IT skills.
* Car driver licence.
Desirable Criteria
* Experience of working in a health‑care or related setting.
* Experience of working with children and families who have health needs.
* Basic understanding of the organisation of nursing care.
* Experience of working within a paediatric outpatient department.
* Motivated, able to work within a team, flexible, able to prioritise workload, innovative and an effective communicator.
* Ability to deal with sensitive information and be empathetic with emotional patients and families.
* Willingness to adapt to changing service needs and to adopt new ideas, skills and knowledge.
Background Checks
* The role is a controlled or regulated activity; a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is required prior to appointment.
* Applicants may be required to pay the DBS fee either in instalments or in full depending on the role.
