Due to increasing workload, an opportunity has arisen for a Dispensary Assistant within our friendly, rural Dispensing Practice. We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and hard working individual to join our team.
The post is 21.5 hours per week.
Monday 8am-6pm
Tuesday 9am - 1pm
Thursday 1pm - 6pm
Friday 1pm - 5pm
Previous experience of working in a healthcare setting would be desirable but not essential.
You will require great customer care skills, experience of working in a busy environment and must have excellent attention to detail.
The vacancy is based at our Ewyas Harold surgery, some travel maybe required to our branch surgery in Peterchurch to cover holidays or sickness so a driving licence and access to a vehicle is essential due to their location.

Main duties of the job
You will be required to help support the smooth & efficient running of the dispensary within the GP surgery by assisting with the preparation and processing of prescriptions, stock management and providing excellent customer service to patients in line with practice policies and NHS regulations. You will also be required to cover reception and phones as needed.

Golden Valley Surgery is a rural practice, caring for 5000+ patients, situated just outside Hereford. We also dispense medication to our patients from our two sites.
We have a strong and active Patient Participation Group who are very supportive of the Practice and offer feedback and suggestions about our services.
The surgery uses EMIS Web and although experience of this would be an advantage, training will be given.
We pride ourselves on giving a high standard of patient care, with a positive attitude, and work hard to keep our good CQC rating.
Job responsibilities
Prescription Processing
* Assist in preparing prescriptions under the supervision of a qualified dispenser, pharmacist or GP.
* Check patient details against prescriptions to ensure accuracy.
* Process repeat prescription requests in line with practice protocols.
* File and maintain prescription records appropriately.
* Assist in answering the telephones when required.
* Serve patients at the reception/dispensary counter in a polite and professional manner.
* Take payments where applicable and issue receipts.
* Maintain patient confidentiality at all times in accordance with GDPR and NHS guidelines.
Stock Control & Administration
* Assist with ordering, receiving and checking pharmaceutical stock.
* Monitor stock levels and report shortages
* Check expiry dates and ensure proper stock rotation.
* Dispose of returned or expired medicines according to regulations.
* Maintain a safe, clean and organised dispensary area.
Compliance & Safety
* Adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
* Follow Health & Safety, Infection Control and COSHH guidelines.
* Participate in training
Other Tasks
* Make tea/coffee for staff when necessary
* Any other tasks allocated by managers
* To undertake any necessary work as may be required and appropriate to maintain a high standard and efficient dispensing service.
