The Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) department is dedicated to ensuring the wellbeing of all employees, contractors, and visitors across every project and site. They develop, implement, and monitor safety policies, risk assessments, and compliance with legal and industry standards. By fostering a strong safety culture and promoting environmental responsibility, the HSE team plays a critical role in protecting people, reducing incidents, and supporting sustainable business practices throughout.
Role Overview
With projected growth, our Client is seeking a proactive HSE Officer to grow with the business to manage all health, safety, and environmental aspects across these projects, to ensure compliance, reduce risk, and promote a culture of safety & wellbeing throughout our operations.
The HSE Officer is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing comprehensive safety and environmental programs to ensure a safe and compliant workplaces. This role involves monitoring regulatory compliance, minimizing workplace hazards, promoting a culture of safety, and ensuring environmental standards are met or exceeded.
The candidate will collaborate closely with their line manager and our in-house teams, throughout client engagement and all stages of decarbonisation projects, underfloor heating projects & maintenance/service contracts as they grow to develop and deliver effective HSE management arrangements. These arrangements will ensure compliance with both client-specific and legal requirements, guaranteeing the safe delivery of on-site projects and maintenance programs.
Beyond maintaining existing standards, the candidate will be expected to drive continuous improvement through both established best practices and innovative approaches, with a strong emphasis on behavioural safety
Leading by example to cultivate a strong safety culture across decarbonization/maintenance & servicing projects, inspiring commitment to health, safety, and environmental excellence.
The HSE Officer will establish strong relationships through regular site visits, providing dedicated support and expert guidance on all HSE matters.
Reporting to the HSE Manager (Decarbonization Project), the HSE Officer will work closely with project delivery teams, client representatives, and the wider HSE department to ensure a safe, compliant, and sustainable operating environment within this rapidly growing sector
What You’ll be Doing:
• You will have proven industry experience in construction, infrastructure, or major project environments, decarbonisation, energy transition, or renewables (e.g., heat pumps, district heat networks, insulation programmes, retrofits, battery or solar installations).
• Experience supporting CDM duties for contractors and subcontractors.
• Working knowledge of client/PC responsibilities under CDM 2015 UK & ROI
• Experience conducting site audits, accident/incident investigations, and risk assessments in live construction environments.
• The successful candidate will have extensive experience working collaboratively with project teams during all phases of pre-construction and construction, including risk assessments, site inspections, compliance monitoring, and incident management. They will be adept at influencing key stakeholders and driving a positive safety culture to ensure regulatory compliance and the wellbeing of all personnel.
• A key strength will be the ability to communicate, influence, and engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels, promoting a proactive and positive safety culture across the business. This role requires a strategic mindset and the capability to ensure HSE principles are not only followed but fully integrated into operational planning and project delivery.
• This role will involve close collaboration with senior leadership, including clients, project teams, and remote teams, to integrate HSE considerations into planning and project delivery, ensuring that health, safety, and environmental requirements are fully embedded throughout the project lifecycle
Essential Requirements
• Nebosh General or equivalent level 3 (UK/IRO acquired only)
• Nebosh Construction or equivalent (UK/ROI acquired only)
• Nebosh Fire or equivalent (UK/ROI acquired only)
• Experience of working in a similar role (UK/ROI only)
• OHSOS 18001 Internal Auditor qualification
• Fluency in written and spoken English is essential
