The Role and About the Person
Cambridge City Council is seeking a skilled and motivated Surveyor (Electrical Services) to lead the delivery, compliance management and continuous improvement of electrical services across the Council’s diverse property portfolio.
This is a key technical role within the City Services – Asset Management team, with responsibility for ensuring electrical safety, statutory compliance and service quality across housing and corporate buildings. You will play a vital part in protecting residents, building users and the Council by ensuring that electrical installations are safe, compliant and fit for purpose.
Key responsibilities include:
* Leading statutory electrical compliance across Council properties, including inspection, testing and certification programmes (EICRs, emergency lighting, fire alarms and associated systems).
* Managing electrical asset information, records and the “Golden Thread”, ensuring data is accurate, complete and aligned with corporate systems.
* Developing and delivering planned programmes of electrical improvements, replacements and upgrades, including budget planning and prioritisation.
* Providing specialist electrical and building services advice to colleagues, managers and project teams.
* Managing contractors and monitoring performance, quality, safety and compliance on site.
* Working closely with residents, building users and internal stakeholders to ensure customer-focussed, well-communicated service delivery.
About you
You will bring strong technical expertise in electrical services, with experience working in housing or property environments and a clear understanding of statutory compliance and building safety. You will be confident managing contractors, interpreting technical documentation, and balancing competing priorities while maintaining high professional standards.
We are looking for someone who is proactive, organised and collaborative, with the ability to apply sound professional judgement and contribute positively to a multidisciplinary asset management team.
Additional Information
* This role requires a DBS check.
* The post holder will be required to travel around the city to undertake inspections, surveys and site visits.
* The role involves accessing plant rooms, confined spaces and working at height where required

Hours: This is a full-time role, for 37 hours per week.
Working Pattern: Monday – Friday (5 Days)
Contract: Permanent
Salary: City Pay Band 6 (£41,771 - £47,181) per annum, pro rata for part time.
Location: This is flexible – working in Cambridge on site or at one of our offices or working from home. You will be able to balance your work location accordingly.
