Design Engineer Role
As a design engineer, you'll develop ideas for new products and production systems. You'll also improve the performance and efficiency of existing products.
Candidates should ideally be educated to degree level with a minimum of 3 years industrial experience. However, candidates with other qualifications and substantial experience in engineering design are also encouraged to apply.
Main Responsibilities
1. Transform research ideas into detailed production designs.
2. Re-engineer existing designs to enhance manufacturability and reduce production time.
3. Prepare and present engineering reports and specifications.
4. Create engineering drawings adhering to relevant trailer legislation and safety standards.
5. Mentor junior engineers and participate in design reviews.
6. Apply Continuous Improvement and Lean Manufacturing principles to workflows.
Qualifications and Skills
* Strong problem-solving skills and teamwork ability.
* Practical hands-on approach.
* Proficiency in 2D & 3D CAD software, preferably Autodesk products.
* Knowledge of MS Office and in-house computer systems.
* Understanding of stress/loading calculations and FEA.
* Knowledge of fatigue and induced stresses.
* Good grasp of engineering and design principles.
* Familiarity with trailer manufacturing processes and heavy engineering.
* Ability to understand customer needs and work outside regular hours if necessary.
* Awareness of design cost impacts.

* Knowledge of health and safety policies.
* Legal right to work in the UK, with evidence required before employment.
