Import Customs Coordinator - Birchwood

Hours: Mon-Thurs 08:00-16:15, Fri 08:00-15:45 (flexible start/finish)
Up to £17.10 p/h PAYE, Umbrella rates also available
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Import Customs Coordinator to join a global manufacturing business based in Birchwood. This is a key role ensuring the smooth and compliant importation of goods into the UK, working within a small, supportive Imports & Duty team.
You’ll be responsible for managing duty management systems, handling import documentation, liaising with HMRC and customs agents and ensuring timely clearance of goods to maintain production schedules. This role is fast-paced and ideal for someone with excellent attention to detail and a proactive mindset!
Key Responsibilities:
Operate Duty Management System (DMS) ensuring full HMRC compliance
Issue Import Instructions to agents and ensure accurate customs entries
Manage customs clearance processes, including deferment accounts
Maintain audit-ready import records and support trade compliance activities
Collaborate with suppliers, freight forwarders and internal departments
Identify and implement process improvements using LEAN principles
Skills and Experience:
Good knowledge of UK import formalities and customs procedures
Experience using a Duty Management System (DMS)
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail
Proficient in Microsoft Office (SAP experience is desirable)
Effective communicator with a team-oriented attitude
Previous customs or supply chain experience is highly advantageous
