Residential Childcare Worker (with full diploma Level 3 qualified or equivalent)
We are currently seeking permanent Support Workers to join our team who have a warm and approachable manner, and feel they can make a significant impact on a young person’s life in how they recover from early life experiences.
As a Residential Support Worker there is a high expectation placed on you to be “strong, committed and passionate” about your role. The young people are at the centre of everything we do - both for and with them. You are a role model, a listening ear, a warm and approachable person and potentially someone who could inspire and make a massive and significant impact on a young person’s life, their choices, who they are and who they can be! You need to promote, support and facilitate the creation of “happy memories” and have fun with them to do so.
Location: West Yorkshire, Castleford
Contract Type: Full time, permanent
Salary: starting at £13 per hour
Key responsibilities include:
1. Supporting all of the children daily routines, including getting them up, promoting personal hygiene routines, meals, either school runs or activities
2. Providing emotional support during challenging times
3. Fostering ambition in young people, assisting them in achieving their goals and maximising their potential
4. Supporting room cleans/developing of life skills/independence, promoting socialisation and supporting bed-time routines
5. Attending medical/other appointments
6. Maintaining accurate records and preparing written reports for planning meetings, reviews or any other meetings as directed by the line manager
7. Completing handover documents/ tasks
8. Completion of daily room checks and daily housecleaning tasks
9. Complete any food/other shopping needs, including meal preparation and kitchen hygiene/laundry duties
10. Completion of any specific checks such as COSHH, Fire Checks/Car checks
11. Liaising and building appropriate relationships with the families, working to find out about special dates for boys and ensuring these are noted/marked, sorting and planning family time contacts
What do we expect from you?
12. Experience of supporting young people who may be vulnerable is desired but not essential
13. Understanding and commitment to the role - including some weekends and bank holidays
14. Undertake sleep-in duties as part of a flexible rota
15. Participating in activities and ensuring we provide young people with a place they feel at home
16. Be capable of working on your own initiative
17. Excellent communication and listening skills
18. Be willing to learn
19. Be able to work well as part of a small team
20. Be willing to undertake a DBS check at enhanced level if successful for the position.
21. Experience with Emotional Behavioural Disorder, Social/Residential Work or Youth Work would be advantageous.
22. Have a full, clean UK driving licence and be able to cover at other Residential Homes as and when needed.
23. Have good inter-personal skills and be a positive team player
24. A desire to engage, motivate and encourage the young people in our homes
