Salary range £36,636–£46,049 per annum, with potential progression to £48,822 after induction. Grade: 7.
Position Details
We seek a motivated academic to provide additional teaching support across our undergraduate engineering programmes, particularly with experience of teaching CAD. Duties include developing and delivering lectures, tutorials, laboratories, group project exercises, and marking coursework and examinations. The role also involves supervision of undergraduate projects, personal tutoring, and the potential for module leadership.
Background
Following the creation of the School of Engineering in 2016, we are in Phase 2 of our renaissance. Significant investment has been made in people and infrastructure, including a new £65m signature build and a £28m UK Rail Research and Innovation Network (UKRRIN) Centre of Excellence for Digital Systems, as well as a £26m National Buried Infrastructure Facility opened in 2020. Role Summary
* Teaching within own subject area in an established teaching programme.
* Development and delivery of lectures, tutorials, laboratories and group project exercises.
* Marking of coursework and examinations under the direction of academic staff.
* Supervision of undergraduate projects.
* Contributing to module leadership.
* Contributing to personal tutoring of undergraduate students.
* Contribution to enhancement of the student experience or employability.
Main Duties
* Teach courses at a range of levels within the specified subject area, mainly for undergraduates, with potential involvement in postgraduates and CPD student teaching.
* Contribute to the review and design of modules and laboratories, assessment and group projects with colleagues.
* Plan and prepare own teaching, including guidance notes and handouts aligned with the programme objectives.
* Devise and supervise student projects, dissertations and practical work.
* Undertake full range of supervision, marking and examination responsibilities, including summative assessment subject to validation by the academic supervisor.
* Act as a personal tutor or be responsible for pastoral care within a specified area.
* Maintain and update subject expertise.
* Engage in professional development in teaching, including self‑reflection and use of student and peer feedback.
* Contribute to knowledge transfer in the specialism, often under supervision of a project leader.
* Undertake management / administration arising from teaching.
* Participate in departmental or school teaching‑related activities and administration.
* Foster a fair and equitable workplace, responding to equality and diversity issues in line with university policies.
* Practice inclusive teaching, embed SDGs, and ensure teaching resources are accessible.
* Act as a role model to staff and students.
Person Specification
* Higher degree relevant to research or teaching undergraduate engineering programmes, or equivalent qualifications.
* Experience of mechanical design and teaching computer‑aided design (CAD).
* Understanding of sustainable development goals and their integration into engineering design projects.
* Experience of using digital resources to deliver teaching.
* High level analytical capability.
* Ability to design and deliver module materials successfully.
* Ability to assess and organise resources effectively.
* Understanding of and ability to contribute to broader management/administration processes.
* Knowledge of the protected characteristics and duties under the Equality Act 2010, and support for the university’s Public Sector Equality Duty (PSED).
